    • PURPOSE:To improve measuring accuracy, by immersing a pair of metallic wires of different melting poins into a molten metal meniscus inside a continuous casting mold for fusion and measuring distance of the fused points. CONSTITUTION:A pair of metallic wires 6 is constructed, fixedly in a parallel manner one to an other of a metallic wire 1 of melting point below temperature of the molten metal inside a casting mold and of that above temperature of molten slag covering said molten metal, and a low-temperature melting metallic sire 2 of the melting paint below the molten slag temperature. And, the pair of metallic wires 6 is suspended from the extreme and of a suspension 7 fastened to a mold cover 9. The end portion of the metallic wire 1 penetrates through unmolten 12 and molten layers 11 of synthetic slag spread over molten metal 10 inside the mold 8 for immersion into the melt 10. After holding this condition for 5-10sec, the pair 6 is taken out of the mold 8. And, the distance between fused ends of the metallic wires 1, 2 is measured for determining the thickness of the molten slag layer from this measured value.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent generation of uneven billet thickness, lamination and rippled surface with a casting mold formed of stationary walls and moving mold surfaces by coating lubricants having high and low viscosities to the prescribed parts on the moving mold surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Stationary walls 2a, 2b are disposed to face each other on moving mold surfaces 1a, 1b and the space corresponding to the width of a thin billet 3 is provided therebetween. Said surfaces 1a, 1b are formed of a pair of casting rolls or casting belts and are disposed to face each other apart at the space corresponding to the thickness of the billet 3. A lubricant having a high viscosity is coated to the parts of the surfaces 1a, 1b facing the walls 2a, 2b and a lubricant having a low viscosity on the parts facing the molten metal between the walls 2a and 2b. The molten metal is supplied into the continuous casting mold formed of said surfaces 1a, 1b and the walls 2a, 2b to obtain billet 3. The cooling rate in the width direction of the billet 3 is thus made uniform and the generation of uneven billet thickness, lamination and rippled surface is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain continuously a thin billet having a good surface characteristic directly from a molten metal by changing the casting direction to a horizontal direction and forming one surface of a casting mold as a molding board surface and the opposed surfaces as moving surfaces by rolls. CONSTITUTION:A molding board 1 consists of a start side molding board 1s formed of refractories and a table-side molding board 1r which contains a water-cooling mechanism and of which the top surface is formed of refractories. Both boards are placed horizontally at a prescribed width, the latter behind the former, thus forming one surface of the casting surface which extends horizontally. A roll group 2 orthogonal to the advancing direction of a billet is rotatably provided above the board 1 apart at the space necessary for the thickness of the billet to be cast from the top surface of said board 1, thereby forming the opposed casting surfaces. The group 2 consists of start side rolls 2s of which the surface is formed of refractories and table roll 2r which contain a water-cooling mechanism and of which the surface is a metallic plate. Both rolls have the horizontal shafts parallel with each other apart at a prescribed space from each other. A perpendicular stationary wall 3 for regulating the width of the billet is provided and the molten metal is poured continuously from the discharge port 6 of a holding vessel 4, by which a thin billet 5 is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which prevents the deterioration in the characteristic of the edge parts and surface of a slab by the constitution in which a specified amt. of inert gas is supplied via gas passages provided with restricting parts into the space between a side dam and a rotary casting mold to prevent penetration of a molten metal into said space. CONSTITUTION:A continuous casting device for a thin plate casts a thin slab 2 by supplying a molten metal from a tundish 4 via a side dam 3 installed above a continuous rotary casting mold of which the surface in the transverse direction of the plate is formed of a pair of casting rolls 1a, b rotating in the directions opposite from each other into said casting mold. Gas passages 10 for blowing an inert gas into the space delta between the base of the dam 3 and the rolls 1a, b of such casting device are formed through the inside of the wall of the dam 3 and restricting parts 13 are provided to the passages 10. The pressure fluctuation on the gas supply side is thus obviated even if the size of said space delta fluctuates largely and the inert gas is supplied uniformly at a stable flow rate, by which the penetration of the molten metal into the space delta is stably prevented.
