    • PURPOSE:To suppress the bumping of a molten steel in the stage of refining the molten steel under a reduced pressure by controlling the pressure in a vacuum vessel and the change rate of a decarburization rate with age in such a manner that the CO and CO2 generated from the molten steel do not attain a satd. state. CONSTITUTION:A ladle 2 contg. the molten steel 3 is set in the vacuum vessel 1 and the molten steel 3 is stirred by oxygen blowing from a lance 5 and the Ar blown from a porous plug 4 by which the molten steel is refined. The pressure in an exhaust gas path 6 and the CO and CO2 in the gas are measured by a pressure gage 8 and an analyzer 9 in this stage. The signal obtd. by processing the value which is the result of the subtraction of the measured value from the preset vacuum degree pattern set in a vacuum degree pattern setter 10 with a proportional integrator 12 and the signal obtd. by subtracting the change rate pattern set in a setter 11 for the pattern of the change rate of the decarburization rate with age from the change rate of the decarburization with age determined by the gas analyzer 9 and processing the result thereof with a proportional integrating differentiator 14 are added in an adder 13. The vacuum degree of a pressure reducing means 7 is so regulated as to increase the pressure in the vacuum vessel 1. The generation of the bumping of the molten steel by the CO and CO2 and the consequent overflow from the ladle 2 are thus prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which prevents the deterioration in the characteristic of the edge parts and surface of a thin slab by the constitution in which an inert gas is blown from gas blow ports at the base of a side dam to prevent penetration of a molten metal into the space between the side dam and continuous rotary casting mold. CONSTITUTION:A continuous casting device for a thin plate which casts a thin slab 2 by supplying a molten metal from a tundish 4 via a side dam 3 installed above a continuous rotary casting mold of which the surface in the transverse direction of the plate is formed of a pair of casting rolls 1a, 1b rotating in the directions opposite from each other into said casting mold. An inert gas supplied from an inert gas source 11 is blown through slit-shaped gas blow ports provided to the base of the side dam 3 of such device facing the mold through gas passages 10 communicating with said parts. The penetration of the molten metal into the space delta between the base of the side dam 3 and the rolls 1a, 1b is thus prevented and the ununiformity at the edges of the slab 2 and the deterioration in the characteristic of the slab surface are prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the development of defect such as penetration of molten steel, edge break and crack in a cast strip, caused by developing gap between a roll and a short side weir by suitably controlling rolling reduction force of the rolls at the time of starting continuous casting when the strip is continuously and directly cast from the molten steel with twin roll type continuous casting apparatus. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel 5 is cast into pouring basin part constituted with two rolls 1, 2 and the short side weirs 7 between the rolls from a nozzle 3, and both rolls 1, 2 are mutually and reversely rotated to continuously cast the strip 10 with the solidified shell C formed at the narrow gap. In this case, preceded the start of casting, the gap between both rolls 1, 2 is set to the prescribed value with an energization device 15 by using a motor 26 and continuous casting is started. The rolling reduction force developed with the development of the solidified shell in the molten steel 5 at the gap between both rolls is detected with a load detector 16, and by adjusting the gap between both rolls, which the detected value is apt to widen, to the suitable value with drive of the energization device 15, it is prevented that the yield of the continuous cast strip 10 is lowered dy developing the defect of the penetration of the molten steel 5 from the gap and the other edge break, crack in the cast strip 10, etc., caused by developing the gap between both rolls 1, 2 and the short side weirs 7.
