    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To economically subject sludge to volume reduction treatment in an activated sludge treatment tank or in a treatment tank where the other biological treatment is performed or on a treatment passage thereof, and to eliminate or remarkably reduce surplus sludge.
      SOLUTION: In this method, sludge is passed through a microbubble generation source and is subjected to treatment of generating microbubbles in the activated sludge treatment tank 2 or in the treatment tank where the other biological treatment is performed on the treatment passage thereof, and the sludge is destroyed and further oxygen is dissolved in the sludge, thus activity of the organic matter decomposition of microorganisms in the activated sludge is increased so as to reduce the volume of the sludge.
