    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long optical laminate which has a wanted optical characteristics, has high stability in the optical characteristics, is preferably used as a negative retarder and provides high production efficiency. SOLUTION: The long optical laminate (such as a broad-band 1/4 wavelength plate) is manufactured by laminating two long phase-difference films in such a manner that respective delayed-phase axes cross each other at a specified angle. The long phase-difference film is a film which is prepared by obliquely stretching treatment of a thermoplastic resin obtained by melt extrusion molding of a resin having 10% by weight or more of a repeating unit containing tricyclo[4.3.0.1 2,5 ]decane-7,9-diyl-ethylene structure and/or of a thermoplastic resin having 55 to 90% by weight of a repeating unit containing bicyclo[3.3.0]octane-2,4-diyl-ethylene structure and which contains a residual volatile component in an amount of not more than 200 ppm and has saturated water absorption of 0.01% or less. Obtained broad-band 1/4 wavelength plate is cut to chips and the chips are stuck to a linearly polarizing element to manufacture a broad-band circularly polarizing element.
