    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scrap cutting method for a side trimmer, which is carried out in a manner flexibly coping with difference or fluctuation of the production ratio at every plate thickness, and brings about a minimum frequency of exchange of shearing knives, and to provide a scrap cutting device for the side trimmer.
      SOLUTION: According to the scrap cutting method, when a trimming scrap 25 delivered from the side trimmer 3 along a scrap guide 4 is cut into short-length pieces by the shearing knives 6 of each cutting rotor 5, two or more cutting zones 8 are set in each shearing knife 6 in a width direction, and by moving the cutting rotors 5 in a direction of a rotation axis, an applicable cutting zone 22 in which the trimming scrap 25 is cut can be selected from the cutting zones 8. Further, the plate thickness of a metal band 1 is sorted into two or more plate thickness ranges, and the applicable cutting zone 22 is successively moved upon occurrence of defective cutting at every plate thickness range. The scrap cutting device is for use in the scrap cutting method.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scrap guide which discharges a trimming scrap generated by trimming a side edge of a metal band by means of a side trimmer, wherein the scrap guide is prevented from being clogged with the trimming scrap and can quickly eliminate the clogging even if it occurs.
      SOLUTION: The scrap guide 3 for the side trimmer has two hard material portions on an inner peripheral surface thereof. The hard material portions are each formed of a tool steel for cold work or a cermet, and arranged at an intermediate portion of the curved scrap guide 3 and an outlet portion 12 of the same. One or both of the hard material portions have a cylindrical shape enclosing the inner peripheral surface of the scrap guide 3.
