    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce Ar gas bubbles included in the slab to be continuously cast and to improve the quality of the slab.
      SOLUTION: The continuous casting apparatus 1 has: a die 2 provided with a pair of long side walls 2a and a pair of short side walls 2b; and an immersion nozzle 6 discharging molten steel 8 to the inside of the die 2. A curved part 5 curved to the side of a box 4a made of stainless steel is formed at the upper center of the inner side face of a copper plate 3a in each long side wall 2a. The curved part 5 is formed so as to be confronted with the immersion nozzle 6. The outer side face of the copper plate 3a of each long side wall 2a is formed so as to be a flat face. The inside of the box 4a made of stainless steel of each long side wall 2a is provided with an electromagnetic stirring device 20 stirring the molten metal 8 at the upper part in the die 2. The lower part of the electromagnetic stirring device 20 is provided with an electromagnetic braking device applying a d.c. magnetic field having a uniform magnetic flux density distribution uniform in the width direction of the die 2 to the thickness direction of the die 2.
