    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composite ceramic material having such airtightness as to be favorable for use in e.g. a heat exchanger which treats high-temperature gases. SOLUTION: The composite ceramic material is the one comprising a woven fabric made of a ceramic fiber and a matrix containing inorganic particles, wherein oxidatively expandable particles constitute a part of the inorganic particles. When the ceramic material is exposed to high temperatures during firing or use, the oxidatively expandable material is oxidized and expanded to fill fine gaps formed among the particles of the matrix and between the matrix and the woven fabric to realize enhanced airtightness.
