    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for mass spectrometry capable of conducting direct analysis of mass spectrometry on a liquid sample under atmospheric pressure by using a laser desorption device and a mass spectrometry assembly.SOLUTION: A method for mass spectrometry comprises the step of irradiating a liquid sample with a laser beam such that, upon irradiation, laser energy is passed on to at least one of analytes contained in the solution of the liquid sample via a matrix so that the at least one of the analytes contained in the liquid sample is desorbed to fly along a flying path which intersects the traveling path of multiply-charged liquid drops of an electrospray medium so as to enable the at least one of the analytes to be occluded in the multiply-charged liquid drops, and such that as a result of dwindling in size of the multiply-charged liquid drops when approaching a receiving unit from a nozzle of an electrospray unit along the traveling path, charges of the liquid drops will pass on to the at least one of the analytes occluded therein to form a corresponding one of the ionized analytes. In the method for mass spectrometry, the material serving as the matrix is selected from a group of materials that are non-transmissible by laser.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser desorption device, a mass spectrometer assembly and a mass spectrometry method in which a mass spectrometry of a liquid test piece can be carried out directly under an atmospheric pressure. SOLUTION: The electro-spray assisted laser desorption device for irradiating laser to a testpiece is provided with an electro-spray unit with a nozzle, a voltage supplying part which is arranged between the nozzle and a receiving unit and in which solvent drops for the electro-spray formed by the nozzle are charged and a potential difference is created forcibly toward the receiving unit from the nozzle alongside a transfer passage. Desorption of an analyzing object contained in the testpiece is conducted when laser is irradiated and it flies alongside a flying passage which crosses the transfer passage and is confined in the polyvalent charged drops and is transferred alongside the transfer passage and a size of the drop becomes smaller gradually, and an electric charge of the drop is transferred to least one of the analyzing objects confined in the drop and an ionized analyzing object is formed.
