    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To design a suitable molecular sub unit which can be organized to a useful nano structure by a controlled means so as to attain the finally desired size and shape. SOLUTION: An alkylated benzimidazolone compound represented by the formula is used to design the suitable molecular sub unit. In the formula, at least one of R 1 to R 4 is X-R c and each of the residues of R 1 to R 4 is independently H or a substituted or non-substituted organic group; X is a linking group; R c is a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group; and R a and R b are each independently H or a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, provided that at least one of R a and R b is H and R c is a group other than an acetoacetyl group when each of all of R a , R b , R 1 , R 3 and R 4 is H, R 2 is X-R c , and X is -NH-.
