    • A timing pulse generating apparatus generates a variety of timing pulses used for acquiring image signals from a solid-state imaging device. A horizontal-ROM stores pattern data representing timing pulses for one period first generated in a horizontal scanning period and repeat times of the timing pulses for one period in the horizontal scanning period. Appropriate pattern data is read from the horizontal-ROM and set in a horizontal-register. A timing pulse generating circuit generates timing pulses in accordance with a count value of a horizontal-counter and the pattern data set in the horizontal-register. Thus, the amount of the pattern data is small even if the repeat times of the timing pulses for one period in the horizontal scanning period are large.

    • A timing signal generating device capable of generating different kinds of signals is disclosed. A first, a second and a third data setting circuit each generate a particular kind of set data for generating corresponding timing signals. The set data are selectively set in a timing pulse generating circuit at the time of start-up of a camera or similar system, which includes the device, or in accordance with the operation mode of the system. The timing pulse generating circuit generates timing signals based on the set data. The timing signals are fed to a solid-state image pickup section and a signal processing section, causing them to operate in accordance with the timing signals.

    • A solid-state image pickup apparatus of a charge transfer type includes a solid-state imaging device having an array of photosensitive cells with charge divider paths provided for sequentially receiving charges generated in the cells of a horizontal line to divide the charges into two groups for each pixel. For one of the two fields subjected to interlace scanning, charges generated in the cells of odd-numbered lines are transferred to its output port, and one of the two groups of charges for even-numbered horizontal lines adjacent to odd-numbered horizontal lines are discharged. Then, the output port effects addition with weight on the charges from the cells of the odd- and even-numbered lines to produce video signals of the odd-numbered lines. For the other field, on the other hand, charges generated in the cells of even-numbered lines are transferred to the output port, and one of the two groups of charges for odd-numbered horizontal lines are discharged. The output port in turn effects addition with weight on the charges from the cells of the even-numbered lines thus obtained to those of odd-numbered lines previously received to produce video signals of the even-numbered lines. Field flickering is adequately reduced and horizontal resolution of a picture is improved.

    • An imaging apparatus includes a solid state imaging device in which pixels are arranged in a matrix. Row transfer lines and column transfer lines are each sequentially scanned so that video signals are delivered time-serially from the respective pixels to an output terminal. The row transfer lines are selected by a CTD which is scanned by drive pulses to sequentially and cyclically transfer charges therethrough. Gates associated with the CTD select one of the row transfer lines at a time responsive to a potential which is developed by the charges. The column transfer lines are selected by a shift register which addresses selection gates associated with the respective columns one after another responsive to a clock. The CTD may be assigned to the column transfer lines and the shift register to the row transfer lines. The apparatus is applicable even to a solid state photosensor arrangement made up of an array of photosensor elements in which case only one of the row transfer lines will be used.

    • Offset cancelling circuitry for cancelling offsets among the reference levels of a plurality of video signals each being associated with a particular color. The video signals are each applied to a particular differential amplifier. A multiplexer and a sample and hold circuit multiplex the video signals so as to output the video signal through a single circuit. An analog-to-digital converter converts the multiplexed video signals to corresponding digital data. The color-by-color digital data are each averaged and the resulting mean values are used as correction data. Alternatively, the digital data from the analog-to-digital converter may be transformed to analog data and then fed back to the differential amplifiers as detected and integrated correction data. Further, the multiplexed video signals may be clamped by a clamp buffer circuit and fed back to the differential amplifiers. As a result, offsets among the video signals are cancelled via the sample and hold circuit.

    • An electronic camera that reduces the consumption of electricity when an image is displayed on an LCD and is able to perform other signal processing at a high speed. Image data captured through an imaging unit is stored in an image memory and is then read from the image memory continuously or intermittently to an LCD drive circuit through a signal processing circuit and a video output circuit. While no video signal is applied in the case that the video signal is intermittently read, the LCD drive circuit suspends applying of drive pulses to the LCD and maintains a currently-displayed image on the LCD. On the other hand, while no image data is read from the image memory in the case that the image data is intermittently read from the image memory for the display on the LCD, the image memory can be freely accessed to perform other signal processing such as recording the image data into an external storage medium.
