    • An optical detector for carrying out chemical analyses has at least one light source, at least one electric detection unit and at least one measurement cell. The invention provides instead the use of surface-emitting semiconductor lasers as light sources, which have the advantage of being relatively easy to produce and of occupying considerably less space. The process hitherto required to separate the laser from the mother substrate and to glue it on a foreign substrate can be dispensed with in the disclosed detector.
