    • Example methods and apparatus for communicating encoded data blocks (700) in wireless communication systems are disclosed. In one example embodiment, a method (200) for receiving an encoded data block (700) includes receiving (210) a data transmission including a subset of a plurality of bits of the encoded data block (700). The example method (200) also includes receiving (220) a first control signal (610) indicating whether the received subset is a first received subset associated with the encoded data block (700) or whether one or more subsets were previously received for the encoded data block (700). The example method (200) also further includes receiving (230) a second control signal (620), the second control signal (620) having a first state and a second state. In the example method (200), the first state of the second control signal (620) indicates that the received subset includes a first predefined subset of the plurality of bits of the encoded data block (700) and the second state of the second control signal (620) indicates that the received subset includes one of a plurality of other predefined subsets of the plurality of bits of the encoded data block (700). In this example embodiment, determining which of the other predefined subsets is included in the received subset is based on one or more system parameters of the wireless communication system (102). Further in this example, the state of the second control signal (620) is selectable between its first state and its second state on a data transmission by data transmission basis, regardless of whether or not one or more subsets of the encoded data block (700) were previously received.

    • Format of a downlink control channel for a user equipment UE is changed in conjunction with switching the UE between being enabled for cross carrier scheduling and being disabled for cross carrier scheduling. Thereafter, the changed format of the downlink control channel is used on at least one serving cell of the UE's configured set of component carriers CCs. In one embodiment the changed format comprises an explicit carrier indicator field CIF for the case in which the switching is from disabled to enabled; and the changed format comprises a format which has no explicit CIF for the case in which the switching is from enabled to disabled. In another embodiment switching from disabled to enabled comprises the UE's configured set of CCs being changed from one to multiple cells; and switching from enabled to disabled comprises the UE's configured set of CCs being changed from multiple cells to one cell. In one embodiment the changed format is implicit; in another embodiment is it explicitly signaled via RRC signaling.

    • A method (and equipment) for providing additional error detection for at least some signaling bits (such as TFCI bits) in wireless communication between a sending device (20a) and a receiving device (20b) that both use some error detection method (such as a CRC method) to protect bits conveyed over a protected channel--a channel other than the channel over which the signaling bits are conveyed--by including error detection bits with the protected bits, the method characterized by: a step (31 32) in which the sending device computes the error detection bits based not only on the protected bits, but also based on the signaling bits, and transmits the error detection bits so computed with the protected bits and also transmits the signaling bits, but on another channel. The receiving device (20b) then performs a step (33) of detecting errors based not only on the protected bits but also on the transmitted signaling bits.
