The apparatus may thereby be connected to the external network via the local area networkand selected L-GW.

摘要： The present invention describes a method, system and an interconnecting handler for sending connection-oriented or connectionless data between two endpoints in a protocol architecture. The transport protocol in the protocol architecture is in a preferred embodiment the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP). The present invention allows the setup and release of a connection when using a simplified protocol stack which is able to provide the same kind of services without using peer-to-peer messages like SCCP or SUA use. The present invention also enables discrimination between connection-oriented and connectionless services without peer-to-peer signalling.

This invention concerns a method for multiplexing a data stream onto a transport bearer between an originating network node and a receiving network node in a telecommunications network. Alternatively, the conveyed information may be a security pa-rameter index or a security association information conveyed in a new information element of the signalling message. This information is then used for creating a new Security Association between the communicating network nodes. Thereby, a separate connection or protocol is not required for the security procedures. More-over, the whole network control system does not have to be involved in the trans-fer, because the endpoints of encryption are in corresponding network elements of the radio access network.

摘要： The fundamental idea in the invention is as follows. Instead of setting up and releasing a bearer, e.g. an AAL2 connection, the connection is maintained and only modified to have either a zero bandwidth or the required bandwidth. The zero bandwidth corresponds to a release in the conventional case and the required bandwidth corresponds to the setup of the connection. The invention is especially applicable in the cases where it is reasonable to assume that a connection once established and currently/no longer needed, that usually can be an AAL2 connection, will be needed again after a reasonably short period of time. However, the invention is applicable also in the general case where the AAL2 connections are initially set up with zero or small resources and then modified afterwards to an appropriate bandwidth on demand.
