    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elliptically polarizing plate which has an excellent characteristic with respect to the oblique direction, has a broad band region and a wide viewing angle and is excellent in adhesiveness between films (layers) themselves. SOLUTION: The method of producing elliptically polarizing plate comprises a process of forming a first birefringence layer on a surface of a transparent protective film, a process of laminating a polarizer on a surface of the transparent protective film, a process of forming a second birefringence layer on a surface of the first birefringence layer, and a process of forming a third birefringence layer on a surface of the second birefringence layer. The first birefringence layer is arranged on the opposite side against the polarizer with respect to the transparent protective film. The process of forming the first birefringence layer comprises a process of applying a liquid crystal material onto a substrate subjected to an alignment treatment, a process of forming the first birefringence layer on the substrate by treating the liquid crystal material and a process of transferring the first birefringence layer onto the surface of the transparent protective film.
