    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a nonporous-solid spherical gelatin particle having a specific volume swelling ratio; a gelatin particle having this gelatin particle in which bioactive substance is dissolved and retained; and a device for a use in which the bioactive substance dissolved, absorbed and retained in the gelatin particle is distributed in an injector together with saline solution.SOLUTION: The heat-crosslinked solid spherical gelatin particle has a circularity of 0.8 or more and a dry-particle diameter of 25 to 600 μm. In a case where the gelatin particle has been immersed in saline solution, the average volume swelling ratio is 200 to 2000% relative to the average volume of the dry-particle. The gelatin particle may be used for blood vessel embolization and sustained-release of the bioactive substance.

The cooling temperature in the gelation step is 0 to 3°C. A dehydration solvent and a cleaning solvent used in the dehydration step and the cleaning step are hydrophilic solvents having at least 10 wt.% of the solubility in water. The obtained gelatin particles do not have porous shapes, and have solid sphere shapes.
