摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a brazing material for joining metallic catalyst carriers which can maintain sufficient oxidation resistance and toughness over a long period of time in a waste gas by incorporating respectively prescribed ratios of Cr, Si, Al, P, and S therein, incorporating substantially no Ni therein and consisting the balance essentially of Fe. CONSTITUTION:The above-mentioned brazing material for joining is composed of contain, by weight %, 15 to 40% Cr, 1 to 10% Si, 1 to 10% Al, 0.1 to 5% P, and 0.005 to 0.3% S, and to contain substantially no Ni and is constituted of the balance substantially Fe. This brazing material for joining has excellent wettability with the surfaces of stainless steel sheets and does not contain the Ni and, therefore, the brazing material does not form an Ni-Al alloy and does not consume the solid soln. Al necessary for forming an Al2O3 film which withstands hightemp. oxidation. The deterioration in the oxidation resistance and toughness of the Al-contg. metallic carriers brazed by using the above- mentioned brazing material is consequently prevented.

摘要： PURPOSE:To protect an outer cylinder and a honeycomb body from peeling off by providing bonded section of the honeycomb body and the metal outer cylinder across the bonded sections and non-bonded sections of plain foils and corrugated foils of the honeycomb body and making the bonded sections of the outer cylinder and honeycomb body discontinuous in the carrier peripheral direction. CONSTITUTION:Plain foils and corrugated foils constituting a honeycomb body 3 are partially bonded with by brazing or the like in the fixed width positions of both ends in the carrier axial direction as shown on bonded sections 5a and 5b. Therefore, non-bonded sections 5c for the plain and corrugated foils exist on the section except both ends of the honeycomb body 3. A bonded section of an outer cylinder 4 of a metal carrier and a honeycomb body 3 is provided across the bonded sections 5a and 5b and the non-bonded section 5c of the plains foils 1 and the corrugated foils 2 of the honeycomb body 3 in a manner that bonded sections 7a, 7b and 7c of said outer cylinder and the honeycomb body are constituted discontinuous in the carrier peripheral direction. As the bonded sections of the outer cylinder 4 and the honeycomb body 3 are discontinuous in the peripheral direction of the carrier as above- mentioned, stress of a part of the non-bonded section is released even if heat stress in the radium direction is applied to the carrier, and the bonded sections are not peeled off.

In this case, the cylindrical container which stores the catalyst carrying part is constituted with a protective oxidized film consisting mainly of an Al oxide and stainless steel whose thermal expansion coefficient is almost the same as or less than the thermal expansion coefficient of a metal base material which constitutes the catalyst carrying part. The best suited cylindrical container is made of ferrite stainless steel containing at least 2pts.wt. or more of Al. The carrier thus obtained has improved durability and can be stably used for a long time.
