摘要： This invention aims at manufacturing a metal support capable of activating a catalyst in a short period of time, and, especially, a method of combining an insulating film-carrying heat resisting alloy having an insulating film consisting mainly of alumina with a heat resisting alloy by arranging a forcibly reducing metal capable of thermodynamically reducing alumina and a solder-laminated bond so that the forcibly reducing metal is in contact with the insulating film-carrying heat resisting alloy, and soldering these metals to each other by heating the same in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. Consequently, only the portions that are to form conductive passages in a honeycomb structure can be combined, and heat resisting metals having insulating oxide films on the surfaces thereof firmly so that they have conductivity. A preheated type metal support capable of being heated at a limited surface layer portion on its exhaust gas inlet side and having excellent cleaning performance can be provided by using this soldering method.

摘要： The electrically heated catalytic converter of the present invention has a substrate, for a catalyst, which is formed as a laminated assembly of corrugated metal sheets and plain metal sheets. The corrugated metal sheet has an insulating coating made of an alumina Al2O3, and the plain metal sheet has no insulating coating. Local conductive connections are formed between the layers of the metal sheets by soldering the metal sheets using strips of zirconium solder foils interposed between the layers of the metal sheets. The strips of solder foils are arranged in such a manner that the strips of solder foil disposed on both sides of the corrugated metal sheet defines a single electric path in the corrugated metal sheet which connects the solder foils on both sides of the corrugated metal sheet. Since the solder foils on both sides of the corrugated metal sheet are connected by only one electric path, the electric resistance between the solder foils is maintained at a relatively high value and the local conductive connections can be heated by a relatively small electric current.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce thermal stress caused by temperature gradient which generates in the early period of exhaust gas inflow in the radial direction of a honeycomb body in particular and to prevent breakage of a reinforcement joining part by brazing a metallic flat foil and a corrugated foil in the several layers of the outer periphery of the honeycomb body to form reinforcement parts, reinforcing and joining the remainder. SOLUTION: In the outer peripheral face of a honeycomb body 7 and the internal circumferential face side of a metallic outer cylinder 8, the joining part 13 of a metallic corrugated foil 4 and a metallic flat foil 5 is brazed by joining material 11 to form a current path 12. A reinforcement joining part 14 is joined while keeping insulation. Further, in the outer peripheral part of the honeycomb body 7, the interval between the metallic corrugated foil 4 and the metallic flat foil 5 is extensively joined by brazing material 17 in the several layers to form a reinforcement part 16. Therefore, strength larger than thermal stress caused in the outer peripheral part of the honeycomb body 7 is secured in the reinforcement part 16. Breakdown of the reinforcement joining part 14 in the current path region is prevented and the structural durability of an electric heating type metallic catalytic carrier is increased.
