    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the heat loss and cope with a power failure by a method wherein round openings are bored in both siodewalls of a furnace body, thermal insulators that can block the openings are rotatably arranged in the openings, bearings are provided at eccentric positions of the thermal insulators, and the thermal insulators are turned to block the openings when a power failure happens. When a power failure occurs during operation, a solenoid valve 39 is closed and a solenoid valve 41 is opened to supply nitrogen gas to an air pipeline 38 from a pressure tank 40. Then a direction switching valve 36 is manually handled to operate cylinders 18a and 18b so that racks 19 attached to acting rods of the cylinders 18a and 18b are moved up or down to turn gears 17. Consequently, the thermal insulators 8 are turned and bearings 11 provided at eccentric positions of the thermal insulators 8 are moved up or down to move rolls 7 up or down.
