    • PURPOSE:To improve remarkably the cooling effect for molten steel by a roll made of a copper metal for ultraquick cooling used in the stage of producing an amorphous light-gauge steel strip by ultraquick cooling of the molten steel by forming a thin Fe or Fe alloy layer on the surface of said roll. CONSTITUTION:A water cooling roll made of Cu or a Cu alloy having excellent thermal conductivity is rotated at a high speed and molten steel is ejected to the surface thereof and is ultraquickly cooled with the roll, whereby an amorphous light-gauge steel strip is continuously produced. The Cu or Cu alloy of the roll for cooling and the molten steel have poor wettability to induce the low thermal conductivity and the poor cooling effect. A Fe metallic layer 2 having good wettability to molten steel such as Fe or Fe-Ni is formed by plating, melt spraying, vapor deposition, etc. on the surface of the Cu or Cu alloy 1 of the water cooling roll in order to improve the above-mentioned defects. Otherwise, an intermediate layer 3 of Ni or an Ni alloy is interposed between the roll 1 and the layer 2 to improve the adhesion between the layer 2 and the roll 1. The wettability between the molten steel and the roll is improved and the cooling effect by the roll is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To provide an improvement in the effect of cooling and prevention of oxidation and to produce a stable titled strip having an excellent surface characteristic and magnetic characteristic by pressing dray ice onto the free surface of the strip prior to stripping of the strip under cooling from a roll in a single roll method. CONSTITUTION:A molten metallic alloy is ejected from a nozzle onto the outside circumferential surface of a cooling roll 1 and is quickly cooled by the same, then the molten metal is stripped from the roll 1 by a stripper 2 whereby a amorphous alloy strip is continuously produced. Dry ice 3 is pressed to the strip in a suitable position between the position 4 where the molten metal is ejected and the position where the strip is stripped, whereby the strip is quickly cooled from the free surface and the oxidation of the strip is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To control the surface temp. of a cooling roll with good accuracy at a high response speed in the stage of ejecting molten metal onto the cooling roll and producing a light-gage strip, by bringing a cooling belt into contact with the outside circumferential surface of the cooling roll. CONSTITUTION:When a roll 1 is rotated under cooling and molten metal is ejected from a nozzle 4 onto the outside circumferential surface thereof, a light- gage strip 5 is formed and is separated from the roll 1 at a sepn. point 6. The outside circumferential surface of the roll 1 is heated by absorbing the temp. of the molten metal in this stage but is removed of heat as it comes into contact with a cooling belt 2 which is suspended by an elastic body and holding rolls and is turned by said rolls. Since the rolls holding the belt 2 are constituted of the elastic material, the belt 2 and the rolls of the elastic material deform to bring them into face contact with the roll 1. The contact time is thus prolonged and the removal of the heat from the outside circumferential surface of the roll 1 is thoroughly accomplished.

The solid carbonic acid stuck on the outside circumferential surface of the roll 1 evaporates in an extremely short time, and there is no need for providing any special mechanism for removing water drops in the midway up to the place where the roll 1 again comes into contact with the molten metal.

    • PURPOSE:To produce a thin strip continuously and easily by conducting molten alloy to the surface of a rotary cooling body by means of electromagnetic force and quickly cooling the same. CONSTITUTION:A raw material which is a base alloy is loaded into a melting furnace 1 and is melted, whereby molten alloy 4 is made. Thereupon, while a roll 5 is being cooled, it is rotated, while an electromagnetic pump 3 is operated. Then, thrust is given to the molten alloy 4 by the pump 3, and the molten alloy ascends along the slope of an ingate 6. In the top 7 of the ingate 6, it contacts with the surface of the roll 5 and is quickly cooled and solidified, thereby forming a wire or tape shape. The wire or tape separates from the roll 5. In this case, the quickly cooled and solidified material of desired thickness is obtained by suitably selecting the area where the molten metal 4 contacts with the roll 5, the velocity of flow of the molten metal, and the peripheral speed of the roll.
