    • PURPOSE:To obtain a composite material where a steel material and so on are caused to adhere strongly to one another metallurgically, by superposing metallic plates, where oxide film layers are exfoliated and waveform scarfing faces are formed, and by subjecting them to hot rolling and high-temperature heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:Slabs 6 and 7 of steel materials and so on are caused to pass through hot scarfing machine 9 to scarf respective adhesion faces, thereby forming waveform scarfing faces 12. These slabs 6 and 7 are superposed by superposing unit 2 including table roller 10 and slab suspended 11. They are carried into pressure stretching unit 3 and are pressed by rolling roll 8 to obtain a composite material where base materials are caused to adhere strongly to one another metallurgically. Next, this composite material is heated by heat treatment unit 4. As a result, stronger interatomic bonding dependent upon diffusion of metallic ions through contact faces of base metals to one another progresses, so that the composite material having a mechanical property equivalent to ordinary materials can be obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease the cracking of a slab by applying compressive force through light screw-down to the slab in its lengthwise direction near its horizontal leveling area and applying the screw-down in the width direction and the broadside screw- down restraining the top and bottom surfaces near the horizontal leveling point in the curved type continuous casting. CONSTITUTION:For example, a slab 9 having unfrozen portions is lightly screwed down by horizontal drive rolls 10 of nearly the same speed as the casting speed in front of the horizontal leveling point and is given compressive action in its lengthwise direction by brake rolls 11 of a slower speed behind the horizontal leveling point. Also, the screw-down in the width direction and compressive force in the lengthwise direction within a range of the broadside screw-down are applied by die rolls 12 near the horizontal leveling point. The die rolls 12 are of a plurality consisting of drive rolls 12a, 12c and control rolls 12c. In order to prevent the occurrence of buckling in the slab 9, the horizontal rolls 14 restraining its top and bottom surfaces are provided. At this time, the die rolls 12 and horizontal rolls 14 are so disposed that the die axis of the former aligns to the horizontal axis of the horizontal rolls 14, to apply no screw-down to the horizontal rolls 14.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the cracking of a slab by acting compressive force in its lengthwise direction near at least the horizontal leveling area and applying drawing force in the width direction near the horizontal leveling point in the curved type continuous casting. CONSTITUTION:Horizontal drive rolls 10 of a speed nearly coinciding with the casting speed are provided in front of the portion near the horizontal leveling point of e.g. a slab 9 having unfrozen portions and brake rolls 11 of a speed slower than the casting speed are provided behind the portion near the horizontal leveling point, to apply compressive action in the lengthwise direction to the slab between these rolls. In addition, the drawing force in the width direction is applied to the slab by three pairs of broadside vertical rolls 12 near the horizontal leveling point. The vertical rolls 12a, 12b are drive rolls which are the same in speed as the horizontal drive rolls and the vertical rolls 12c are brake rolls of a low speed which apply drawing force dividedly at plural positions. The leveling strain with low-head casting is relieved by the synergistic effect of the compressive action in the lengthwise direction of the horizontal rolls 10, 11 and the lateral screw-down action and compressive action in the width direction of the vertical rolls 12.

    • PURPOSE:To make it possible to change the operation of rapid single-side plating to both-sides plating, by use of a plating bath consisting of an upper molten zinc layer and an under molten lead layer, and by equipping a mechanism for supplying under molten lead to a space made between the hoop and a special guide roll. CONSTITUTION:A hoop is immersed in an upper molten zinc bath contained in a plating tank 4. The operation is performed in a space surrounded by a dividing wall 10 and filled with protective gas. In plating the single side alone of the hoop 1, the space made in the dent of a special roll 3, which is in contact with the hoop 1 and has a diameter smaller at its middle part than at both ends, is filled with the molten lead contained in the under layer by lifting it through a lift pipe 7 thereby sealing the space made between the special roll 3 and the other side not to be plated of the hoop 1. The change to both-sides plating is possible by stopping the supply of the molten lead to the lift pipe 7.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the high speed casting performance in particular, by providing an apron roller, two apron rollers of small diameter, and a supporting roller for the latter two rollers sequentially and alternately in the running direction of continuous cast pieces. CONSTITUTION:Pitch l and diameter D of apron rollers 13 in roller disposition of a conventional low speed continuous casting machine are set to 550mm and 480mm respectively. On the other hand, in this invention, sets of rollers consisting of an apron roller 14, two apron work rollers of small diameters 15, and an apron supporting roller 16 are disposed alternately. The rollers 14 and 16 are identical in diameter, and the conventional apron rollers are used for these rollers. The dimensions are D=480mm, d=260mm, l2=550mm, l3=390mm, and l4=320mm. As a result of this partial modification of the apron rollers of low speed continuous casting machine, the apron roller pitch may be remarkably shortened, and occurring stress and roller deflection may be decreased, so that the quality at the terminating period of solidification of cast pieces may be greatly increased.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the degradation in the quality of plated surfaces owing to the splashes of hot dipping metal by providing suction ports to one end part of gas wiping nozzles for blowing of the excess plating metal in a continuous hot dipping device for steel strips. CONSTITUTION:Gases are blown through gas wiping nozzles 3, 3' onto both surfaces of a steel strip 2 stuck with hot dipping metal on both surfaces coming out from a metal hot dipping cell, whereby the excess hot dipping metal stuck on both surfaces of the strip 2 is blown off. In this case, the one end part of the slip 13 of each nozzle is formed to such a shape as to approach gradually to the strip 2, whereby the edge parts where the excess plating metal sticks much are strongly wiped with the gases and part of the gases injected from the opposite gas wiping nozzles are sucked with gas suction slits 14 opening into another chamber. The splashes of the hot dipping metal occuring in the turbulent flow of the gases in the edge parts are eliminated and the degradation in the quality of the plated surfaces by the splashes is eliminated.

    • PURPOSE:To blow the plating thickness in the width direction of a continuously metal hot dipped steel strip uniformly by directing one end part of gas injection slit nozzles for the purpose of blowing the excess plating metal on the surfaces of said steel strip to the edge parts of the surfaces of the steel strip. CONSTITUTION:Both surfaces of a steel strip 2 coming out from a zinc hot dipping layer 6 are blown with gas injection nozzles 8, 8, whereby th excess hot dipping metal stuck on both surfaces is removed. In this case, one nozzle 8 is made freely movable in the width direction of the strip 2 so that its one end part 15 directs the edge part of the surface of the strip 2. At the same time, the one end side of the nozzle 8 on the opposite side is made freely movable in the width direction of the strip 2 so as to direct the other edge part on the rear of the strip 2. Since the gaseous flow ejecting from the injection nozzles on the sides outer than the edge parts of the strip 2 forms one way flow without collision and is simplified, the injection pressure higher than that in the prior art is usable and the excess hot dipping metal stuck on both surfaces of the strip 2 is removed uniformly at a high speed.
