    • PURPOSE: To prevent the development of crack in a gas blowing type immersion nozzle set with low gas flow rate and to improve and stabilize the quality of a cast slab by controlling gas back pressure so as to be lower pressure than that equivalent to the strength of the powder line part of the immersion nozzle which is regulated according to the casting time. CONSTITUTION: The target gaseous Ar back pressure equivalent to strength lower than that of the powder line part 4 in consideration of the safety factor is calculated according to the casting time from the relation between the pre-estimated casting time and the strength of the powder line part 4. The gaseous Ar back pressure 9 is read from a pressure gage fitted on the way of gaseous Ar introducing pipe 8 to the immersion nozzle 3 and the read value is compared with the target gaseous Ar back pressure, and the control of the gaseous Ar back pressure 9 is started from the point of time when both values become equal. During casting, the gas permeation characteristic value is continuously calculated and the gaseous Ar flow rate is continuously or intermittently adjusted to a value obtd. by multiplying this permeation characteristic value by the target gaseous Ar back pressure and then, the gaseous Ar back pressure 9 is controlled to the target gaseous Ar back pressure. The control is effected by the both of a automatic operation and a mannual operation.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the longitudinal crack by giving the alternating fluid in the right and the left directions in the rotating direction to molten steel on the interface of the solidification in a mold. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel is poured into the mold 2 from an immersion nozzle 4. Discharged flow 3 is generated at the surfaces (a), (b), (c), (d) of a cast slab, To an electromagnetic stirring flow 5 in the mold, at the surfaces (a), (c) of the cast slab, a reversing flow of the discharging flow coincides with the stirring flow in the direction and the flow speed at the interface of the solidification can be secured, but at the surfaces (b), (d) of the cast slab, the reversing flow 3 of the discharging flow is cancelled with the stirring flow 5 and the flow speed at the interface of the solidification can not be secured. Then, as the result, in which the rotating direction of the molten metal fluid at the interface of the solidification is alternated in the right and the left directions with the electromagnetic stirring device 1 in the mold, the longitudinal crack on the whole surfaces (a), (b), (c), (d) of the cast slab can be prevented, and the saving of repairing and the improvement of productivity can be obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively remove impurities, such as gas components, non-metallic inclusions in molten metal by impressing AC current between a part producing gas bubbles and the molten metal, and controlling the diameter of the bubbles. CONSTITUTION:At the time of blowing the gas G into the molten steel in a ladle 1 from a nozzle 3 in the bottom part, bubbles 9 are produced in the molten steel 2. An AC current is supplied into the molten steel 2 in the direction of producing the bubbles 9 through an electrode 6 dipped into the molten steel 2 and an electrode 7 set around the nozzle 3 by an AC power source 8. By this current supply, electromagnetic force is generated in the molten steel 2. The electromagnetic force is applied inside toward the center of the current on the plane at the right angle to the current direction to give the molten steel 2 the pressure. Since the current is AC, the electromagnetic force is changed with the lapse of time and the gas G is drifted away from the nozzle 3 to make the bubbles 9. By making the frequency of the AC current high and making the bubble leaving interval short, the diameter of the bubbles 9 is made small.
