    • PURPOSE:To accelerate the aging of slag cooled slowly in a blast furnace by adding a surfactant combined optionally with an oxidizing agent to the slag. CONSTITUTION:A surfactant is added to slag cooled slowly in a blast furnace by >=0.005wt%. In order to produce a sufficient effect, the surfactant is added by >=0.01wt%. By the wetting and penetrating actions of the surfactant, an aqueous soln. contg. dissolved oxygen penetrates and disperses rapidly into the slag all over, so the oxidation of the slag is accelerated, and the aging is completed. When >=0.01wt% oxidizing agent is further added, the oxidizing action of the agent activates said oxidation with oxygen dissolved in the aqueous soln., so the oxidation of the slag is synergistically accelerated. A nonionic surfactant is most suitable for use as the surfactant, and an Mn compound, hydrogen peroxide, org. peroxide, an iron compound, a nitrogen compound or the like is used as the oxidizing agent.

    • PURPOSE:To accelerate the aging of slag cooled slowly in a blast furnace by combinedly adding a surfactant and sulfite to the slag. CONSTITUTION:When sulfite is added to slag cooled slowly in a blast furnace, free S produced from CaS in the slag reacts with SO3 in accordance with the equation, so no polysulfide is produced to prevent the production of yellow water. When a surfactant is further added, by the wetting and penetrating actions of the surfactant, an aqueous soln. contg. dissolved sulfite penetrates and disperses rapidly into the slag all over. As a result, said reaction represented by the equation is efficiently carried out, and a little sulfite shows a significant aging accelerating effect. The sulfite is potassium sulfite, sodium sulfite, ammonium sulfite or the like, and any of anionic, cationic, amphoteric and nonionic surfactants may be used as the surfactant.
