    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a low-bulk-density coke having a high porosity without decreasing strength from an ordinary coal blend by carbonizing coal in the presence of particles which comprises a pore-forming agent as the core and a reinforcement attached to the surface thereof. SOLUTION: Metallurgical coke is produced by carbonizing an ordinary coal blend in the presence of pseudoparticles which are formed by attaching a reinforcement to the surface of a pore-forming agent as the core having a particle size of 0.5-3 mm and which have particle sizes of 6-20 mm and an apparent density of 1.05-1.20 g/cm , the amt. of the pseudoparticles present (in terms of the pore-forming agent) being 0.1-5 wt.% based on the coal blend. Pref., the pseudoparticles are obtd. by causing a caking additive (e.g. pitch) having a particle size of 0.5 mm or lower and a softening point of 80 deg.C or higher or a heavy caking coal having a max. reflectance (Ro) of coal of 1.10 or higher and a Gieseler flowability (NF) of 10 ddpm or higher in an amt. of 0.54 wt. % (based on the coal blend), if necessary together with a binder, to a pore-forming agent by the agglomeration method.
