    • It is a proposition of the present invention to provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing program which can reduce a user's burden when performing tracking observation of a specimen. In addition, it is also a proposition of the present invention to provide a user friendly observing system. Therefore, an image processing apparatus of the present invention includes a storage unit which takes in a plurality of slice images acquired from a specific area of a specimen by each of Z-stack shootings performed at different time point, associates the plurality of slice images each with a shooting time point and a slice height z of the shooting time point, and stores the plurality of slice images as one of slice image groups, a manual selecting unit which allows a user to manually select a slice image from one of slice image groups stored by the storage unit as a representing slice images (Ia, Ib, Ic, ...) of said one of slice image groups, and an automatic selecting unit which automatically selects a slice image from another one of slice image groups stored by the storage unit, as a representing slice image of said another one of slice image groups, based on a selecting standard information indicating a result of the manual selection.

    • The present invention relates to a microscope apparatus and a control method that allow making observation efficient. An image processing unit 32 obtains an image on a plane observation cross-section inside a sample 12. A drive control unit 31 controls a galvano-scanner 15 and a z drive unit 17, and inclines the entire observation cross-section in a direction where the cross-section of an observation target that appears in the image becomes long, and when an edge portion of the cross-section of the observation target is detected in the observation cross-section while gradually inclining the observation cross-section, the drive control unit 31 uses an axis passing through the edge portion as the center to incline a part of the observation cross-section located on a side, where the cross-section of the observation target does not appear, from among the sides having this axis as a boundary, in a direction where the cross-section of the observation target appears, so as to form the observation cross-section having a profile which is folded. The present invention can be applied to a microscope apparatus which obtains an image by scanning ultra-short pulse laser beams, for example.
