摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double-layer capacitor, which improves characteristics such as reduction of failure caused by short-circuiting and reduction of inner resistance at high levels, and realizes high voltage energy density by using a new separator which uses beating material of solvent spinning cellulose fiber capable of beating and satisfies both the denseness and ion permeability, as a separator which separates a pair of polarizable electrodes. SOLUTION: In this electric double-layer capacitor, where a pair of polarizable electrodes are separated with a separator, the separator is paper-formed by using beating material of solvent spinning cellulose fiber, capable of beating in the range of 6-100 wt.% as a material. The beating material of solvent spinning cellulose fiber capable of beating is beaten up to CSF 200-0 cc. The thickness of the separator is set to 20-10 μm, and the density is set to 0.25-0.60 g/cm3.

SOLUTION: In an electric double layer capacitor having a pair of polarizing electrodes isolated by means of a separator, the separator is composed of a non-woven fabric principally comprising polyphenylene sulfide. The separator is made as a sheet by wet paper making method using a material containing polyphenylene sulfide fibers by 40 wt.% or more or made as a sheet by a dry method such that the polyphenylene sulfide fibers are contained by 40 wt.% or more. The separator has a thickness in the range of 20-300 μm and a density in the range of 0.250-0.600 g/cm
