摘要： A method for hindering detection of information unintentionally leaked from a secret held in a memory unit is described, the method including receiving a triggering event waiting for at least a first amount of time to pass after the receipt of the triggering event, the memory unit being in a non-operational state during the at least a first amount of time, after the at least a first amount of time has passed, changing at least one first condition under which the memory unit operates, thereby causing the memory unit to enter an operational state, waiting for a second amount of time to pass after the changing at least one first condition, and changing, after the second amount of time, at least one second condition under which the memory unit operates, thereby causing the memory unit to enter the non-operational state, wherein access to the secret information is enabled only during the second amount of time, and detection of secret information unintentionally leaked is limited during the first amount of time. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

摘要： An electronic device 22 comprises an array of memory cells 24 corresponding to multiple bits of data fields in the device. At least one range of the cells comprises at least one cell 38, 40, perhaps not physically contiguous with the others, that is programmed to be permanently fixed at a given value during manufacture of the device. There may be more than one fixed cell that may contain different fixed values, e.g. one cell fixed at binary one and another fixed at binary zero. Other cells of the range are permitted to be programmed subsequently, e.g. with a security configuration field or other secure data. A readout circuit 26, preferably comprising sense amplifiers, is configured to concurrently read out all cells in the range, including the at least one permanently programmed cell and the subsequently programmable cells. Preferably, a readout in which the fixed cell(s) have a value different from the given value is defined as an illegal readout. In a typical application, the arrangement can detect an attempt to tamper with memory that applies an external disturbance to alter the value of secure data to, for example, all binary ones or all binary zeros.

In response to the control signal, a dummy value and the secret value are inserted in succession into the element of the circuit. This impedes side channel non-invasive power monitoring techniques, for example by using a dummy which is the inverse of the secret, and overwriting the dummy with the secret or vice versa in succession. The dummy may also be a non-constant, random value or string of alternating bits. The secret and dummy values may be toggled between the pair of registers so that at each clock cycle one of the registers holds a valid secret code.

摘要： An electronic device 22 includes an array 26 of memory cells, which are configured to store data values. One or more sense amplifiers 34 have respective inputs for receiving signals from the memory cells and are configured to output the data values corresponding to the received signals. Switching circuitry 36 is coupled between the array of the memory cells and the sense amplifiers and is configured to receive an indication of a temporal pattern and to route the signals from the memory cells among the inputs of the sense amplifiers in accordance with the temporal pattern. The temporal pattern can be a random variation. The amplifiers can have differential inputs. The memory cells can be arranged in multiple columns and the switching circuit connects each amplifier with two or more different columns in alternation. The switching circuit 36 can be coupled to a processor 24 to receive an indication of the temporal pattern as a control input via control line 38. The device comprises a pattern output for providing an indication of the temporal pattern to processor 24 that rearranges the output 35 by the sense amplifiers.
