摘要： An optical recording medium includes a groove track and a land track provided on a resin substrate. Each of the tracks is divided into a plurality of sectors for every turn. Each sector has an ID region, a servo region, and an information region. A pit in the ID region is formed so as to span across both the groove track and the land track. The first wobble pit and the second wobble pit are provided on both sides of the center line of each track, and they are spaced with each other in the direction of the track. Thus, since a larger width of the pit can be provided, production of the optical recording medium can be facilitated. Moreover, since the center of the track can be detected accurately by the first and second wobble pits, accurate tracking control can be performed.

The controller among them performs such control that information is recorded and reproduced on only either lands or grooves in a region where file management information is recorded and reproduced, while information is recorded and reproduced on both lands and grooves for a plurality of tracks or for every zone in a data region, in the case of a land and groove recording optical disk. In the case of a land or groove recording optical disk, the controller performs such control that information is recorded and reproduced at alternate tracks in a region where file management information is recorded and reproduced, while information is continuously recorded and reproduced in the data region. As an optical disk, the track pitch in the region where the file management information is recorded and reproduced is made wider than the diameter of the laser beam.

摘要： An optical head assembly for an optical information reading and reproducing apparatus including a laser for emitting a laser beam directed so as to impinge upon an information carrier disc. Rays of light reflected from the information carrier disc is separated into a reproduction signal detecting beam and two servo signal detecting beams by a path separator prism. The reproduction signal detecting beam enters a reproduction signal detector while the servo signal detecting beams enter an image sensor. The image sensor is so positioned as to cause images of the light beams to assume a substantially equal size. By selecting pixels effective to properly detect focusing and tracking errors, various servo signals can be obtained in dependence on outputs from those pixels selected.
