    • A gauge for detecting both the temperature and surface level of a fluid within a container. The gauge includes an elongated casing which extends into the fluid. A float which rises and falls with the fluid surface is slidably coupled to the casing and carries a magnet. A support member positioned within the casing carries both a sensor for determining the position of the magnet and a sensor for measuring the fluid temperature. The surface level of the fluid can be determined from the position of the magnet. A heat conducting element thermally couples the temperature detecting sensor to the fluid. In a preferred embodiment, the support member takes the form of a printed board. In a separate preferred aspect, the temperature and magnet detecting sensors are reed switches which are vertically spaced apart yet aligned in parallel to minimize interference.

    • The present invention relates to steering wheels of automobiles provided with communication systems employing light transmitters, comprising a steering shaft, a boss plate fixed on the tip of the steering shaft, a ring portion mounted to said boss plate, light emitters and light receivers provided with said boss plate therebetween to perform light communication, the light emitters comprising a plurality of emitting units while the light receivers comprise a plurality of receiving units corresponding to the emitting units of the emitters so as to transmit and receive signals with each other, thereby constituting a communication unit with a pair of emitting and receiving units, and a plurality of through holes formed on the boss plate in correspondence to the light emitting and light receiving units, which are more than the communication units and enable all the light signals of all the units for light communication to pass therethrough.

    • Thermal transfer printing method and apparatus are provided to make initial character image data left on a spent ink ribbon illegible. In the method, after forming an initial character image on an ink layer in black of the ink ribbon, a forefront of the ink layer is aligned with a forefront position of an intermediate transfer film. Then, overwrite character image data is applied on a thermal head to produce a first superimpose character image on the ribbon and a first superimpose character image on the film. After that, the forefront position of the ink layer is shifted from the forefront position of the film by a predetermined distance and the overwrite character image data is applied on the thermal head to produce a second superimpose character image on the ribbon and a second superimpose character image on the film.

    • An air bag device is provided which uses an eddy current position sensor. A coil of the sensor is disposed on a seat frame or the like, as a portion of a vehicle body, which is difficult to deform at the beginning of a collision. A metal body as a detected body of the sensor is disposed on a portion, facing the coil, of a rocker panel, which is a portion of the vehicle body, that is easily deformable at the beginning of a collision. The sensor may be disposed at other portions, e.g. inside a pillar or a door. An inductance of the coil influences a resonance condition of a resonance circuit. An output of the resonance circuit is rectified by a rectifier circuit. An ignition control circuit detects an output of the rectifier circuit and outputs an ignition command signal to a squib of an inflator, based upon at least one of an output value and a change rate of the output value of the rectifier circuit, thereby inflating an air bag.
