    • PURPOSE:To make the angle of inclination of work rolls zero when positioning pins fit into engaging holes and to simplify the preparatory plan in initial setting by providing the engaging holes and positioning pins on the opposed surfaces of a pair of chocks for work rolls and a pair of chocks for backup rolls. CONSTITUTION:Engaging holes 22 and positioning pins 23 fit freely attachably and detachably into the holes 22 are provided on the respective opposed surfaces of a chock 13 for a work roll and a chock 18 for a backup roll. The position of each hole 22 and pin 23 is determined in the relative position where the angle of inclination of the roll 12 is made exactly zero when the hole 22 and the pin 23 fit tightly to each other. Two pieces each of the holes 22 and the pins 23 are provided on the respective opposed faces of the chocks 13, 18 and at least one set suffices. The accuracy of the initial setting is maintained at all times without being affected by the accuracy of the roll and the surface condition such as deviated wear or the like.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the uneven wear of roll by installing a moving device for moving a work roll in its axial direction in a roll chock to make the work roll movable in its axial direction. CONSTITUTION:A rolling material 1 is rolled by upper and lower work rolls 2a, 2b which are crossing each other at a prescribed cross angle and upper and lower backup rolls 3a, 3b which are in contact with the outsides of rolls 2a, 2b respectively. Both ends of said rolls 2a, 2b are freely rotatably supported by a pair of roll chocks 4a, 4b and are mounted so as to be vertically movably in a housing 6. Further, the roll 2b is supported freely movably in its axial direction by the chock 4b, and a moving device for moving the roll 2b in its axial direction is also housed in the chock 4b. Thus, the uneven wear of roll is prevented by this device.

The piston rod 3 of a top roll balancing cylinder 1 is connected freely rotatably to a pin 21 which intersects orthogonally with the pin 19 in the horizontal direction through a supporting lever 22 inserted into the pin 19.
