    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a β"-alumina without deviating from stoichiometric ratio by pulverizing a stoichiometrically blended material of Na2 O powder and Al2 O3 powder using a mechanical alloying method to react with each other and next, heat treating the pulverized material at a lower temp. than the conventional. SOLUTION: The Na2 O powder and the Al2 O3 powder are blended to become stoichiometric ratio, the blended material is sufficiently pulverized until the reaction of the Na2 O with Al2 O3 occurs with a hard ball (e.g. zirconia ball) to react with each other. The resultant pulverized material is heated under the atmosphere at 500-800 deg.C for a prescribed time to be crystallized. Since the mechanical alloying method used for the production of the β"-alumina is a method for mechanically mixing and pulverizing poor components to react with the powder components each other, the structural components of the β"- alumina are allowed to react with each other by mixing in stoichiometric ratio without using a carbonic acid compound. Then, since the crystallization at a low temp. is enabled, the deviation of stoichiometric ratio caused by the evaporation of Na or the like is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To form an electrode membrane having optional thickness even if the membrane is dense by adding a thermoplastic resin having good molding capability to electrode material powder, kneading to form a uniform mixture, heating the mixture to give it fluidity, then pressing the fluid mixture into a mold frame. CONSTITUTION:A mold frame 2 for molding a fuel electrode 1 is mounted to the outside of a porous base pipe 9, and the mold frame 2 is heated with a band heater 7 to keep the fluidity of an electrode material mixture. A thermoplastic resin is added to fuel electrode material powder, and they are sufficiently mixed with a kneader, then the kneaded mixture is supplied to a pressure chamber 6. The pressure chamber 6 is connected to a raw material supply part 8 of the mold frame 2, then the fluid mixture is supplied into the mold frame 2 under pressure. The fuel electrode 1 is cooled and solidified, then the electrode is taken out by dividing the mold frame 2. After unnecessary part formed in the raw material supply part 8 is removed, the electrode is put in a heating furnace. The fuel electrode 1 is heated so as to keep its shape in the furnace, and the thermoplastic resin is removed by decomposition and vaporization. The electrode 1 is heated to sintering temperature and the electrode material powder is sintered.
