A hot air supply means for supplying hot air into the tub 5 during a drying process is provided inside a top cover 2 or the like which is located at the top of the casing 1, and a dehumidification means which condenses and collects moisture vaporized from the washing with cooling water injected therein is provided. The dehumidification means uses a gap space 41 between the interior wall surface of the water tank 5 and the exterior wall surface of the tub 6 as a dehumidifying space. A detection means for detecting whether or not the cooling water has been supplied to the dehumidification means is provided, and operation of the washing and drying machine subsequent strokes is controlled at early stages since the start of the drying process in accordance with outputs from the detection means.
