    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: in a switch that drives an arc, generated between electrodes during circuit break, in a circumferential direction of the electrodes by a magnetic field from a permanent magnet so as to interrupt the arc, magnetic-field strength is determined by a magnetic-field distribution formed by the shape of the permanent magnet, therefore, interruption performance is not always sufficient. SOLUTION: A switch includes a movable electrode 1a and a fixed electrode 2a arranged in insulating gas. A ring-like permanent magnet 4a, arranged so as to be coaxial with the fixed electrode, is provided on the outer periphery of the fixed electrode 2a at a part in contact with the movable electrode 1a. A ring-like magnetic body 11, having a larger inner diameter and a smaller outer diameter than those of the ring-like permanent magnet 4a, is arranged coaxially with the fixed electrode 2a and on a plane, facing the movable electrode 1a, of the ring-like permanent magnet 4a. The magnetic field contributing to rotation of an arc is strengthened so as to improve electromagnetic force generated by the arc, thereby improving arc-extinguishing performance of the switch.
