    • A swash plate type variable displacement compressor comprises cylinder bores, pistons, a suction chamber and a discharge chamber. A suction valve introduces a low pressure gas into a working chamber in each cylinder bore. A discharge valve introduces a high pressure gas in the working chamber into the discharge chamber during a compression stroke. A crank chamber communicates to each of the cylinder bores at rear sides of the pistons. A swash plate is tiltably supported on a drive shaft and connected to each of the pistons through associated rods. The swash plate makes the pistons reciprocate in response to its undulating swing motion and varies its inclination angle based upon pressure differential between pressure in the suction chamber and pressure in the crank chamber therefore adjusting discharge displacement. A gas supply passage communicates each cylinder bore to the crank chamber in order to supply gas having a lower pressure than that in the working chamber at the time of completing the compression stroke. A gas bleed passage communicates the crank chamber to the suction chamber in order to introduce gas in the crank chamber into the suction chamber. A pressure control valve is provided in the gas supply passage or the gas bleed passage to control pressure of gas in the crank chamber. A valve is provided for opening and closing the gas supply passage in the middle of the compression stroke of each of the pistons.

The friction reducing coating layer is provided on the wall surface of the through hole to lower a coefficient of friction of the support portion.

    • A swash plate is mounted on a drive shaft disposed in a housing having a gas suction chamber in such a way that the swash plate is rotatable integrally with the drive shaft. A plurality of cylinder bores are formed around the drive shaft, extending along the drive shaft. Disposed in each cylinder bore is a piston, which reciprocates between top and bottom dead centers by undulating movement of the swash plate caused by rotation of the drive shaft. A compression chamber where gas is compressed by the reciprocal movement of the piston is defined in each cylinder bore. Provided between the drive shaft and the swash plate is a mechanism for altering an angle of the swash plate with respect to the axis of the drive shaft to change a reciprocal stroke of the piston to thereby control compression displacement. A rotary valve is provided at the drive shaft to be rotatable integrally with the drive shaft. The rotary valve has a passage for permitting uncompressed gas to move to each compression chamber from the suction chamber in synchronism with the reciprocal movement of the piston during rotation of the rotary valve before the piston reaches the bottom dead center. The compressor further comprises a mechanism for forcibly changing the timing at which the piston substantially reaches the top dead center in accordance with an inclined angle of the swash plate.

    • A variable displacement swash plate type compressor comprises a suction chamber, a discharge chamber and a crank chamber. A flow rate control valve mechanism is provided along a refrigerant supply passage, which connects the discharge chamber to the crank chamber. The flow rate control valve mechanism is provided with a discharge pressure chamber and an intermediate chamber. A valve hole is provided between the discharge pressure chamber and the intermediate chamber, to permit both chambers to communicate with each other. A pressure sensitive member is provided in the intermediate chamber to separate the intermediate chamber into a first and a second pressure sensitive chambers. The first pressure sensitive chamber communicates with the discharge pressure chamber via the valve hole. The second pressure sensitive chamber communicates with either the crank chamber or the suction chamber. The pressure sensitive member is displaceable as a function of the pressure difference between the first and second pressure sensitive chambers. A restriction permits the first pressure sensitive chamber and the crank chamber to communicate with each other. A valve body is coupled to the pressure sensitive member to be displaceable in synchrony with the action of the pressure sensitive member, and regulates the opening of the valve hole according to the displacement. A return member biases the valve body and the pressure sensitive member to a valve open position when the pressure in the discharge chamber becomes almost zero.

    • A piston type compressor has a housing, a crank chamber and a drive shaft supported by the housing. A front restriction and a rear restriction are located in the housing. The front and rear restrictions restrict axial movement of the drive shaft. The front restriction restricts forward movement of the drive shaft. The rear restriction restricts rearward axial movement of the drive shaft. A first clearance is located between the rear end of the drive shaft and the rear restriction when the drive shaft is restricted by the front restriction. A second clearance is formed between the piston and a valve plate when the drive shaft is restricted by the front restriction and when the piston is in the top dead center position. The first clearance is narrower than the second clearance. The method of assembly the piston easily sets the first clearance.
