    • This invention provides a process for producing a distillate boiling-range hydrocarbon product which comprises hydrotreating a hydrodesulfurized aromatic, substantially dealkylated hydrocarbon feed produced by the catalytic cracking of a hydrocarbon fraction, the feed having an initial boiling point of at least 300.degree. F., an aromatic content of at least about 30 weight percent, a hydrogen content not more than about 12 weight percent and a sulfur content of not more than 5000 ppmw, in the presence of a catalyst comprising an inorganic, non-layered, porous, crystalline phase material having pores with diameters of at least about 13 .ANG. and exhibiting, after calcination, an X-ray diffraction pattern with at least one peak with a relative intensity of 100 at a d-spacing greater than about 18 .ANG., said material containing at least one Group VIII metal and less than 5000 ppm Na, said process being carried out at a hydrogen partial pressure of not more than 1000 psig to evolve product containing less than about 10 weight percent aromatics and less than 300 ppmw sulfur at a 390.degree. F.+ feed conversion of less than about 30 weight percent.

    • A process for producing high quality lubricants by the hydrocracking and hydroisomerization of petroleum waxes uses a catalyst which is based on an ultra-large pore crystalline material. The crystalline material exhibits unusually large pores of at least 13 .ANG. diameter and a high sorption capacity demonstrated by its benzene adsorption capacity of greater than about 15 grams benzene/100 grams at 50 torr and 25.degree. C. The crystalline material is characterized by an X-ray diffraction pattern with at least one d-spacing greater than about 18 .ANG. and in a particularly preferred form, a hexagonal arrangement of pores of at least 13 .ANG. diameter which can be indexed with a d.sub.100 value greater than about 18 .ANG.. The hydrocracking catalysts based on these materials are capable of producing lube products with a high VI of at least 120 and usually higher, values of 135 and higher e.g. 143. the lube products are produced in good yield from feeds which may contain down to about 30 percent wax content, although wax contents of at least 50 percent are preferred for the highest quality products. The catalysts achieve this result without the use of fluorine or other promoters.

    • The equilibration of a zeolitic hydrocracking catalyst is accelerated by the addition of nitrogen compounds to the hydrocracker feed during the start of cycle (SOC). Addition of the nitrogen compounds reduces the exotherm, indicative of a decrease in the hydrogenation activity of the catalyst consequent upon the addition of the nitrogen. The reduced hydrogenation level decreases hydrogen consumption at this point in the cycle so that units which are hydrogen constrained may be operated under more favorable conditions. In addition, the attainment of equilibrium or lineout conditions is accelerated and yield benefits, particularly in the production of middle distillates are observed.
