摘要： A packaging platform for optically coupling one or more optical waveguides of one or more optical components having the optical waveguide to one or more optical fibers is provided with a reference structure portion for the horizontal and vertical positioning of the optical component. The platform is further provided with one or more fiber positioning portions for inserting and holding the optical fiber and positioning the optical fiber at a position where the optical fiber is optically connected to the optical waveguide. The provided packaging platform and an optical module using the platform can simplify all alignment steps for optical coupling, electrical connection and sealing in the coupling of the optical component and the optical fiber.

摘要： In an optical module having a silicon substrate, a plurality of optical semiconductor devices and optical waveguides for performing transmission of optical signals by the semiconductor devices integrated on the silicon substrate, the silicon substrate is doped with an impurity to increase the number of carriers in the silicon substrate for suppressing optical crosstalk between the plurality of optical semiconductor devices, the optical waveguide is composed of a core part and a peripheral cladding layer of the core part, or optical fibers each coupled with each of the semiconductor devices, and an electrical resistivity of part or all of the silicon substrate is 0.1 &OHgr;cm or less, or a lower part of an optical semiconductor light receiving device is made high in resistance, and a lower part of an optical semiconductor light emitting device is made low in resistance in which construction, each of the optical semiconductor devices is locally coated with a transparent resin, and all the parts protruding upward from the optical waveguide are coated with a light absorbent such as one or plural caps.

The optical functional circuit where a plurality of circuit elements are formed on a substrate includes the wave propagation medium for converting an optical path of a leakage light so that the leakage light that is not emitted from a predetermined output port of the circuit element is not coupled to a different circuit element. This wave propagation medium is constituted by an optical waveguide that is provided with a clad layer formed on the substrate and a core embedded in the clad layer, and a part of the optical waveguide is formed in accordance with a refractive index distribution which is multiple scattered.
