    • The image heating apparatus includes a flexible rotatable member, a flexible rotatable member, a slidable member contacting an internal surface of the flexible rotatable member, a holder for holding the slidable member, and a pressure roller for applying a pressure to the flexible rotatable member thereby forming a nip portion with the slidable member, wherein a holding surface of the holder includes a first holding area of a crowned shape in which a central portion in a longitudinal direction of the holder protrudes more than both end portions toward the nip portion, and a second holding area of a crowned shape, which is provided at a downstream side of the first holding area in a moving direction of the flexible rotatable member and in which a central portion in a longitudinal direction of the holder protrudes more than both end portions toward the nip portion, and the second holding area has a crown amount larger than a crown amount of the first holding area. This configuration allows to suppress creases and undulations in a recording medium in an image forming apparatus.

    • Disclosed is a fixing apparatus which includes a first rotatable member having an endless configuration, and a second rotatable member in pressure contact with the first rotatable member which causes a recording material bearing an image to be nipped and conveyed at a pressure contact portion between the first and second rotatable members. A temperature raising unit is provided for raising temperature of a local portion of the first rotatable member by reception of electric power supply, and a temperature detecting unit detects a temperature of a location different from the pressure contact portion with respect to a rotational direction of the first rotatable member. A first control unit is provided for feedback-controlling electric power to be supplied to the temperature raising unit, and a second control unit is provided for temporally supplying electric power corresponding to a set value set by a setting unit to the temperature raising unit.

    • A road shape recognition device includes: distance and height detecting means for detecting distance data having a distance and height in real space regarding a road surface where a vehicle is traveling at multiple mutually different points; approximation line calculating means for dividing the plurality of distance data into near and far groups as viewed from the vehicle to calculate an approximation line of the distance data for each group each time the distance data of the boundary portion between the two groups is transferred from one of the groups to the other; statistics calculating means for calculating statistics from the corresponding approximation line for each group where the distance data is transferred; and road shape model generating means for selecting one out of combinations of the approximation lines to generate a road shape model using the selected combination.
