    • An exhaust gas purifying system includes a catalyst arranged on an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine; a sensor detecting a state of the exhaust gas passed through the catalyst; and an ECU functioning as an abnormality determining apparatus determining abnormality by monitoring an output of said sensor in an operation under forced air-fuel ratio. When the operation under forced air-fuel control is interrupted before completion of the determination of system abnormality, the abnormality determining apparatus once stores a parameter accumulated during the operation under forced air-fuel ratio control by the time of interruption, and when the internal combustion engine comes to satisfy the prescribed condition again, resumes the operation under forced air-fuel ratio control, and completes determination of system abnormality using the stored parameter and the parameter accumulated after resumption of the forced air-fuel ratio control.

    • A toner for developing an electrostatic image includes toner particles constituted by at least a binder resin, a colorant, a polar resin and a release agent. The polar resin has at least one terminal group which has been modified by a polycarbonate acid having at least three carboxyl groups. The polar resin has an acid value of 3-35 mgKOH/g. The polar resin may preferably be a polyester resin having an acid value of 4-35 mgKOH/g and having a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of 3,000-15,000, a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of 6,000-50,000, and an Mw/Mn of 1.2-3.0 based on GPC. The polar resin (preferably polyester resin) having modified by a polycarboxylic acid having at least three carboxylic groups to provide a specific acid value is effective in improving resultant toner performances, such as low-temperature fixability, anti-offset characteristic at high temperatures, triboelectric chargeability, and flowability.

    • According to one embodiment, a display input apparatus includes a display screen. At least one array of light-emitting elements is provided along at least one edge of the display screen, the at least one array of light-emitting elements being configured to irradiate a light beam therefrom. At least one array of light-receiving elements is provided along an edge opposing the at least one edge of the display screen, the at least one array of light-receiving elements being configured to receive the light beam from the at least one array of light-emitting elements and further being configured to generate a detection signal indicating intensity of the received light. A control unit is configured to determine a potential of the detection signal, and further being configured to compensate the potential of the detection signal based on the intensity of the received light. A detection unit is configured to compare the compensated potential of the detection signal with a threshold so as to detect coordinates of a touch position thereby.
