The message processing code segment (216) processes an incoming message received via a data service network (400). The message processing code segment (216) subsequently compares a portion of each incoming message to at least one criterion contained in at least one message routing rule having a message database object (418, 420) associated with it, stores each incoming message meeting each criterion for a message routing rule in the message database object (418, 420) associated with that message routing rule, and stores all messages not routed to a message database object (418, 420) according to a message routing rule into a default message database object (422).

    • A system and method of transmitting packets from a wireless device is provided. According to a broad aspect, the wireless device is to transmit a packet on a communication channel during a time window based on whether or not the communication channel is expected to be torn down during the time window. If the communication channel is not expected to be torn down during the time window, then the wireless device transmits the packet late in the time window. However, if the communication channel is expected to be torn down during the time window, then the wireless device transmits the packet during the time window just prior to when the communication channel is expected to be torn down. This prevents having to re-establish the communication channel merely to transmit the packet if the communication channel is torn down.

    • The disclosure relates to a system, method and device for providing information relating to a received communication for a device. The method comprises generating and providing a message on a display of the device indicating receipt of an inbound communication, after determining that the device is to receive the inbound communication while the device is composing an outbound communication and after determining the inbound communication is related to the outbound communication by an analysis of information of the inbound communication against information of the outbound communication. The message provides options for processing the inbound communication depending on whether the outbound communication is initiated as either a reply to the inbound communication or a forwarding of the inbound communication.

    • One illustrative method for use in efficiently establishing a data connection, such as a Packet Data Protocol (PDP) Context, between a mobile station and a wireless communication network includes the steps of causing at least one data connection request to be transmitted to the wireless network in attempt to establish a data connection between the mobile station and the wireless network; setting a delay timer to an initial value and running the delay timer; if the data connection has not been established in response to transmitting the at least one data connection request, causing at least one subsequent data connection request to be transmitted after expiration of the delay timer set to the initial value; setting the delay timer to a subsequent initial value which is greater than the initial value and running the delay timer; and if the data connection has not been established in response to transmitting the at least one subsequent data connection request, causing at least one other subsequent data connection request to be transmitted after expiration of the delay timer set to the subsequent initial value. This technique continues until the data connection is established with the wireless network, if at all. If a new wireless network is selected during the technique, the process is reset such that the first initial value is again utilized first for the delay timer. Preferably, the technique works in combination with relatively more quick retries implemented in lower radio layer(s) (i.e. the physical, data link, or network layer). Thus, each data connection request may be a plurality of data connection retries which are performed much closer together in time than other retry attempts.
