    • The present invention is for a stent delivery guide catheter to be used in percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). The stent delivery guide catheter consists of a guide catheter body having proximal and distal ends with a cylindrical outer wall and a coaxial inner wall defining a inner lumen. A bladder is formed between the inner and outer walls and is in fluid communication with an inflation lumen. A radially expandable and compressible stent is located inside the guide catheter body and is removably attached to the inner wall in the area of the bladder. In use, a balloon catheter is slid inside the guide catheter with the balloon positioned under the stent. When the bladder is inflated, the stent is compressed radially inward and is deposited on the balloon catheter. The present invention can also be used without the stent to facilitate the exchange of an over-the-wire balloon catheter. The balloon catheter is pulled proximal to the inflatable bladder inside the guide catheter. The bladder is then inflated and compressed to hold the guidewire while the balloon catheter is exchanged.

    • A method and apparatus for a radially expandable stent for implantation within a body vessel, comprising a first and second wire having a series of alternating peaks and valleys. The valleys of the first wire are braided with the peaks of the second wire forming a braided region with the interwoven first and second wire being wound into a continuous helix having a hollow cylindrical shape. The peaks of the first wire of the continuous helix may be welded to the adjacent valleys of the second wire of the continuous helix. The peaks and valleys of the first wire may symmetrically intersect with the peaks and valleys of the second wire to form a uniform series of crossings thereby permitting even expansion of the first and second wires. The proximal end of the first wire may be attached to the proximal end of the second wire. The distal end of the first wire may be attached to the distal end of the second wire. A means within the interwoven first and second wires of the continuous helix may be included for expansion thereof.

    • The present invention is accomplished by providing a method and apparatus for a radially expandable stent for implantation within a body vessel, comprising a large wire formed winding segment and 2 small wire formed winding segments. The large wire formed winding segment has a hollow cylindrical shape including a preformed pattern such as a sinusoidal wave form being wound into a continuous helix the length of the stent. The second and third wire formed winding segments have a hollow cylindrical shape including a preformed pattern such as a sinusoidal wave form wound into a continuous helix. The uniform pattern of the first, second and third wire segments permit uniform expansion of the stent. The second and third winding segments have more wire per unit surface area than the first winding segment. The second winding segment proximal end is attached to the distal end of the second winding segment to form a ring. The second winding segment is attached to the proximal end of the first winding segment. The third winding segment proximal end is attached to the distal end of the third winding segment to form a ring. The third winding segment is attached to the distal end of the first winding segment. The first, second and third winding segments may be formed of a unitary wire or may be formed from two or more wires. A member within the first, second and third winding segments to expand the first, second and third winding segments is included.

    • A mounting and transfer device and method for installing a stent on a delivery device that inserts the stent into a body lumen. The device includes a generally cylindrical mandrel for receiving and frictionally holding a stent, a handle at a first end of the mandrel and a guide rod extending axially from the second of the mandrel. The second end of the mandrel has a conical recess surrounding the guide rod exit. In use, a stent is placed on the mandrel, the distal end of the guide rod is fully inserted into a guide wire lumen at an end a delivery system such as a catheter and the stent is slid from the mandrel onto the balloon and crimped in place. A tube of heat shrinkable material may be placed over the stent on the mandrel and heat shrunk to lightly press against the stent. The tube and stent are transferred to the balloon and crimped. The tube protects the stent against damage during transfer and crimping and is easily removed thereafter since crimping reduces the outside diameter of the stent to less than the internal diameter of the tube.
