Specifically, the product can be packaged between two films, wherein at least one of the films is oxygen-permeable. The edges of the films can be attached to one or more suspension frames, such that the product is suspended between the two frames. The oxygen-impermeable film is covered in with an oxygen-impermeable material that can be removed on demand to promote blooming.

摘要： The presently disclosed subject matter is directed to a system and method that allows on-demand oxygen generation within a package. Particularly, the disclosed package incorporates a mass of an oxygen generating material within the interior or exterior of the package. The oxygen generating material is contained by some means, for example, in a cartridge, pouch, sachet, or other similar article separate from a packaged product. For applications with fresh red meat, at the time the package is ready for display, oxygen generation is initiated to increase the oxygen concentration within the package interior, thereby allowing blooming of the red meat.

The first layer is an outer heat seal layer containing a blend of a highly branched homogeneous polymer and a semicrystalline polymer. The highly branched homogeneous polymer has at least 40 branches per 1000 methylene groups, an Mw/Mn less than 3.0, and a density of less than 0.89 g/cc. The highly branched homogeneous polymer is present in an amount of from about 1 to 50 weight percent, based on layer weight. The semicrystalline polyolefin has a density of at least 0.90 g/cc. The semicrystalline polyolefin is present in an amount of from about 60 to 99 weight percent, based on total layer weight. The second layer contains a thermoplastic polymer in a crosslinked polymer network. A process for making a packaging article includes coextruding the first and second layers, irradiating the resulting multilayer film, and thereafter heat sealing the first layer to itself or another component of the packaging article.

摘要： The invention provides a multilayer film having an oxygen transmission rate of about 10,000 cc (STP)/m2/day/atm or greater at 23° C. and 0% relative humidity, a modulus of about 15,000 psi or greater in at least one direction. The multilayer film can be used for packaging a wide variety of products requiring regulation of oxygen permeability under varying packaging conditions because the multilayer film is capable of providing a relatively high OTR without sacrificing the mechanical properties that may be necessary for many packaging applications. The multilayer film may include a sealant layer, a stiffening layer, and a core layer disposed between the sealant and stiffening layers. In one embodiment, the sealant layer comprises a polyethylene having a density of less than 0.93 g/cc; the core layer consists of an ethylene/alpha-olefin having a density of 0.90 g/cc or less; and the stiffening layer comprises a styrene/butadiene/styrene block copolymer having a modulus of about 250,000 psi.
