摘要： In a battery powered selective call receiver receiving a synchronous signal, a battery saving method extends battery life by optimizing the amount of time the receiver circuit is activated when searching for the signal after previously acquiring synchronization. The battery saving method allows for turning the selective call receiver on without activating the receiver circuit. The receiver circuit is activated at a time later than the energization of the selective call receiver, where the time of activation of the receiver circuit is determined in response to the time passed since synchronization was last acquired and the system signal stability.

摘要： A paging receiver receives a message signal having an address field and a data field. The message has at least one address within the address field and a plurality of packets in the data field. The data packets contain a predetermined amount of information. A method for conserving power during reception of a message signal having an address field comprising a number of addresses involves entering the power conserving mode of operation after attempting to correlate a predetermined number of addresses with the paging receiver's address, where the predetermined number is less than the number of addresses in the address field. In addition, message information may be included within a plurality of packets by several methods including placing a corresponding plurality of addresses in the address field, each address indicating the occurrence of message information, or by indicating in one packet that information follows in a subsequent packet. Use of the second method provides for placing of tone only messages in positions left vacant in the address field by the subsequent data packets. Additionally, the invention provides for varying the size of the address field with a boundary signal.

摘要： A system and method is described for synchronizing a paging receiver decoder to receive information in the form of digitally encoded signals. The digital signals include a synchronization signal followed by message data. The synchronization signal includes a first and second portion of the synchronization signal. The decoding means is synchronized to the first portion for generating a timing signal. The decoder then measures a phase relationship between the timing signal and the second portion of the synchronization signal. The timing signal generated by the decoder is adjusted according to the phase relationship to improve the decoding of the incoming information. In a second embodiment, a second synchronization signal is transmitted for statistically improving the accuracy of the timing signal.

The data streams may have either independent or dependent signalling protocols. A transmitting device generates the information in one of several embodiments. A second receiver receives the information signal and process only the second data stream for meassages. A third receiver is capable of selectively receiving and processing a plurality of data streams. The third receiver is shown in several embodiments for selecting the data streams.

摘要： A selective call receiver receives a signal having a baud rate and comprising a number of phases. The number of phases are time division multiplexed to form the signal. The selective call receiver has selective call address information assigned thereto and includes a receiver for receiving and demodulating the signal and a memory for storing predetermined information. A demultiplexer is coupled to the receiver and the memory for demultiplexing the signal to recover one of the number of phases in response to the predetermined information and the baud rate. The selective call receiver also includes a decoder coupled to the demultiplexing means for decoding said one of said number of phases of said signal to derive a selective call message therefrom.
