    • In accordance with the present disclosure, an expandable diameter stylus and related systems and methods are described herein. The expandable diameter stylus may comprise an elongated body and a writing surface disposed on an end of the elongated body. The expandable diameter stylus may also include a variable diameter grip proximate to the writing surface. In certain embodiments the variable diameter grip may have a first diameter when the expandable diameter stylus is positioned within a stylus garage of a portable computing system. The variable diameter grip may have a second diameter, larger than the first diameter, when the stylus is removed from the stylus garage for use as an input device.

    • The invention provides methods and compositions for screening candidate compounds for activity in altering the level of expression of Schlafen (Slfn) in cells, tissues and animals. The invention also provides methods and compositions for screening candidate compounds for activity in altering the level of virus infection. The invention further provides methods and compositions for screening candidate compounds for altering the level of expression of virus proteins without substantially unfaltering the level of expression of cellular proteins. The invention additionally provides methods and compositions for diagnosing the risk and/or susceptibility to virus infection. The invention also provides transgenic non-human animals, and transgenic cells, comprising a mutant Schlafen (Slfn) gene, such as a knockout mutation. These invention's compositions and methods are useful as models for virus infection, and for screening candidate prophylactic and/or therapeutic anti-viral compounds.

    • An aesthetically striking memento comprising an edge-lit translucent panel having an inscribed design, and a free-standing compact base unit with integral LED edge-lighting system. The compact base unit includes an LED light source for reflecting light upward into the translucent panel. The plaque generally comprises an acrylic panel inscribed with a reverse design on its rear face with text, logos and/or graphics and which seats within a recessed cavity in the compact base unit. A reflective material lines the floor of the cavity and surrounds a series of LEDs spaced lengthwise along the slot at the bottom of the cavity. An integral battery or A/C power receptacle provides power to the LEDs through a switch located in the compact base unit. When illuminated, the LEDs emit light upward into the translucent acrylic panel. The light is reflected forwardly from the inwardly-inscribed design and outward to a viewer, thereby accentuating the inscribed indicia carried on the panel.
