      SOLUTION: On an applicator bar 1, a supplying chamber 12 extending in the longitudinal direction (W) of a coating device is provided, and the coating material is led to the supplying chamber with a supplying element. The curtain coating device has a nozzle slit 30 bonded with the supplying chamber on the flow, and the coating material is led from the supplying chamber to the nozzle slit and then led to the outside of a flow-out opening 31. On a separately provided interchangeable component, a supplying opening of a supplying block 50 for the coating material introduced to the supplying chamber and/or a supplying hole formed between the supplying chamber and the nozzle slit are formed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a scraper of a curtain coater.
      SOLUTION: The curtain coater is used for coating a transferable material web such as paper or cardboard with a coating agent. A coating apparatus is arranged at a position above the material web having an upper surface. The above web is installed in the curtain coater so that it is transferable. Specifically, the web is arranged so that the coating agent is applied on the web surface so as to form a thin flow of liquid that resembles a "curtain." The curtain coater is provided with a scraper having a surface for scraping that is engaged on the upper surface of the web so as to remove an air boundary layer on the web surface. The durability of the scraper surface for scraping is increased by composing the scraper with a material capable of providing a surface-hardened or durability-enhanced coating layer or with an ablation-resistant material.

A guiding element (20) is arranged on a front side of the coating curtain in a running direction of the web and extends towards the coating curtain for forming gas volume differentiating itself from the characteristics of the surroundings. The method comprises applying a coating mass from a curtain coater device (11) arranged above a moving fibrous material web as flow forming a coating curtain (2) on a coating point (12) arranged on a surface of the material web, and carrying out a derivation of the boundary layer air (5) before applying a coating means on the surface of the web. A guiding element (20) is arranged on a front side of the coating curtain in a running direction of the web and extends towards the coating curtain for forming gas volume differentiating itself from the characteristics of the surroundings and limiting at the coating curtain before influencing the derivation of the boundary layer air in a protected, flowing gas zone (31), whose pressure, flow rate and/or flow direction are adapted for improving the stability of the coating curtain in a desired manner. A gas differential pressure acting over the coating curtain is regulated while the flow characteristics of the gas zone are affected by using the arrangements of the guiding element. The flow of the gas zone is laminarly arranged. The distance between the guiding element and the material web is 1-5 mm. The distance between the guiding element and the coating curtain is 15-35 mm. The height of the guiding element is arranged at 35-100 mm. Elements are arranged between the guiding element and a derivation means of the boundary air for the adjustment or throttling of the air flows in a slit. The process is applied during scrap blowing or suction scraping of a boundary air layer. An independent claim is included for a device for controlling a boundary layer air.
