    • PURPOSE:To improve the cooling efficiency of a supercharger by introducing a cooling water into a supercharger water jacket at the cooling water stream upper than the position of a mounted thermostat on a cooling water path during the operation of an engine. CONSTITUTION:A cooling water forcibly circulated by a water pump 11 is partially introduced into the water jacket 19 of a supercharger 4 through the first introducing path 17A during the operation of an engine 1. The operation of the water pump 11 is stopped simultaneously with the stoppage of operation of the engine 11. Heat caused by the supercharger 4 heats up the cooling water in the water jacket 19 to generate evaporative foams. The cooling water returns therefore to the water jacket 19 through the water jacket 19, the second introducing path 17B, a radiator 10, a cooling water supply pipe 16 and its discharging path 18, forming convective motion.

When the temperature of cooling water for an engine 1 is increased to higher than a set value, the first and second control valves 32 and 34 are brought into an OFF-state, the switching valve 18 is closed, and exhaust gas is introduced in the turbine 9 only through an exhaust gas introducing passage 16 for low speed as a velocity of flow is increased. During high speed operation, the switching valve 18 is opened.

In a low speed range (where the passage 17 is closed), ignition lead angle properties have inclination slightly lower than lead angle characteristics of a high speed range. In a low speed range, EGR chracteristics is decreased over that in a high speed range. Control of a fuel injection valve 14 is effected by a map control system by means of an intake air amount, detected by an airflow meter 12, and the number of revolutions of an engine detected by a rotation sensor 26.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of the performance of the supercharger by a method wherein gas such as EGR gas, blow-by gas or the like, which is added to suction gas, is permitted to be introduced into the suction system of the engine without exerting the supercharger with adverse effect, in the engine equipped with the supercharger. CONSTITUTION:The engine 1, equipped with the supercharger, is provided with a main suction gas path 14 and a supercharging path 18 in which the supercharger 19 is arranged. At least under high load of the engine, supercharged air is supplied from the supercharging path 18 in the compression stroke of the engine in addition to natural suction from the main suction gas path 14. The engine is further provided with an introducing path 30 for EGR gas, which is extended from an exhaust path 31, and the introducing path 32 for blow-by gas, which is extended from a crank chamber 33. Both introducing paths 30, 32 are opened in the main suction path 14 at the downstream side of a main throttle valve 17. Accordingly, the EGR gas and the blow-by gas, which are added to the suction gas, are supplied into a combustion chamber 6 through the main suction gas path 14, therefore, the supercharger 19 will never be affected adversely by the gas added to the suction gas.

    • PURPOSE:To increase the charging efficiency of an engine, by reducing resistance to the intake-air flow by providing a by-pass passage by-passing an intercooler connected to an intake passage on the downstream side of a supercharger so that intake air is not passed through the intercooler at the time of nonsupercharged operation of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A natural air intake passage 14 and a supercharging passage 18 having a supercharger 19 are connected to a combustion chamber 6, and an intercooler 20 through which cooling water is circulated by a water pump 31 is connected to the supercharging passage 18 on the downstream side of the supercharger 19. At the time of high-load operation of an engine, a clutch 29 for driving the supercharger 19 is coupled, and supercharging air is supplied to the combustion chamber 6 after it is passed through the intercooler 20 and cooled thereby. At the time of low-load operation of the engine, on the other hand, the clutch 29 is uncoupled by a control unit 33 and the supercharging passage 18 is closed substantially, so that intake air is supplied only through the natural intake passage 14 by-passing the supercharger 19. Thus, since resistance to the intake-air flow caused by passing intake air through the intercooler is removed, it is enabled to raise the charging efficiency of the engine.

    • PURPOSE:To raise the charging efficiency of an engine and to thereby prevent drop of the engine output in the operational range of the engine when switching of a variable port is effected, by opening a second intake port fully at the time of high-load operation of the engine simultaneously with the opening of a control valve, and delaying the timing for closing the second intake port when the control valve is opened to that of a first intake port. CONSTITUTION:The engine speed for switching a second intake port at the time of high-load operation of an engine is set in the range of 3,500-5,000rpm since it is necessary to keep a control valve open at the time of engine operation higher than 5,000rpm and to close the control valve for preventing blow-back of intake air when the engine speed is lower than 3,500rpm. The timing for closing the second intake port when the control valve is open is delayed to that of a first intake port so as to raise the charging efficiency. At the engine speed for switching a variable port when a high-load intake port 4 is opened, expansion wave is produced in a first and a second low-load intake passages 20a, 20b when supply of intake air from a low-load intake port 3 is started and transmitted as secondary pulsation wave of compression wave to the low- load intake ports 3 of cylinders 1A, 1B just before they are closed completely. By thus supercharging the engine and raising the charging efficiency, it is enabled to increase the engine output by preventing the drop of the same.
