摘要： An intervertebral prosthesis implantable within a disc space and disposed between upper and lower vertebral endplates is provided. The prosthesis comprises a plurality of prosthesis components insertable into the disc space, wherein the components have at least one set of complementarily-shaped and sized surfaces, and wherein the at least one set of complementarily-shaped surfaces comprises a slot, and a rod that fits in the slot. A method of implanting an intervertebral prosthesis according to the present invention also is provided.

摘要： A surgical tool and method are provided for positioning an intervertebral device between vertebral members of a patient. The tool includes an insertion/extractoin mechanism including an elongate inserter and an engagement mechanism. The elongate inserter has proximal and distal ends, with the engagement mechanism being disposed at the distal end of the elongate inserter. The engagement mechanism includes an engagement surface configured to at least partially conform to an intervertebral device. The engagement mechanism is adapted to releasably engage the intervertebral device employing one of a vacuum coupling or a magnetic coupling between the engagement surface of the engagement mechanism and the intervertebral device.

摘要： An intervertebral disc nucleus replacement implant for positioning between adjacent vertebrae of a spinal segment comprises opposing superior and inferior end portions substantially aligned along a longitudinal axis and a compressible, elastic body surrounding part of the end portions. Each of the end portions includes a convex outer surface for contacting respective endplates of the adjacent vertebrae. Additionally, the elastic body includes an outer surface, with the implant having an outer periphery comprising the outer surfaces of the end portions and the outer surface of the body. In certain embodiments, the elastic modulus of the body is lower than the elastic modulus of each of the end portions and the body extends outward of the end portions transverse to the longitudinal axis, such that the body is configured to limit the amount of subsidence of the implant relative to the adjacent vertebrae.
