    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that the undersurface of a control panel of a garbage treating machine is apt to be affected by heat rising from a heater and therefore when a cooling structure for introducing the outdoor air is arranged, fine dust in the outdoor air is apt to stick to the control panel. SOLUTION: The garbage treating machine is provided with: a holder 15 which is fixed to a cover 4 to hold the control panel 14 and to cover the control panel 14 from below; a drain hole 17 arranged for draining the condensed water which is generated owing to a temperature difference in the cover 4 and accumulated in the lower part of the holder 15; and a shield plate 19 arranged below the drain hole 17 at the least to form a layer insulated with air between the holder 15 and the shield plate 19. As a result: the condensed water can be prevented from being accumulated on the undersurface of the control panel; a bad influence of the heat rising from the heater to be exerted directly on the control panel 14 can be prevented by the layer insulated with air; a cooling wind is not required to be brought into direct contact with the control panel; and fine dust can be prevented from sticking to the control panel, so that both of reliability and safety of the control panel can be enhanced.       SOLUTION: The temperature in a garbage container 101 is controlled within a first temperature range by changing the supply power to the drying heater 103 within a first power supply range by a control means, based on information of a drying sensor 112 detecting the temperature in the garbage container 101. When the temperature becomes uncontrollable within the first temperature range within the first power supply range according to the progress of heating/drying of garbage, the control means switches the first power supply range to a second power supply range lower than the first power supply range. Thus, temperature rising value (ΔT/Δt) of every given time in the garbage container due to the progress of garbage heating/drying can be suppressed, a set temperature of the overheating preventive device can be lowered, to further safely operate the overheating preventive device.

After a predetermined time has passed since the operation of the garbage treating machine is started, the locking means 4 is actuated during the time when the temperature detected by the oxidation catalyst temperature detecting means 16 is equal to or lower than a predetermined threshold level. The amount of the steam to be generated in the housing vessel 1 is estimated by using the temperature of the oxidation catalyst 9 since such a characteristic can be utilized that the temperature of the oxidation catalyst 9 declines when the steam generated from the garbage flows into the oxidation catalyst 9. When the steam containing a large quantity of the bad smell is generated, the locking means is actuated so that the cover 2 can not be opened/closed.
