摘要： There is provided a computer readable program, stored in a storage medium, for controlling a server terminal in a communication system which is structured that a data communication apparatus for transmitting and receiving data via a line and the server terminal for managing a network are at least connected to the same network, the program comprises a notifying step of notifying, in a case where the data communication apparatus received the data from a transmission side via the line, a user on the network of a fact that the data reception was performed, and a sending step of sending, in a case where the notification was performed, information representing such the notification, to the data communication apparatus. Therefore, in case of exchanging the data between the data communication apparatuses at least one of which is connected to the network, when the transmission side inquires whether the data transmitted from the transmission side has been successfully reached the user, i.e., the final destination, of the network, even if the server terminal is carrying out other processes, such the terminal can easily respond to such inquiry.

摘要： A data processing apparatus, such as a facsimile apparatus, connected to a LAN, that transmits and/or receives data to or from another apparatus, wherein even if an error or failure such as a printer error or an insufficiency of available space in image memory for storing image data occurs, the required process is continued by transferring the image data from the data processing apparatus to another apparatus also connected to the LAN. The data processing apparatus has the capability of detecting an error in the LAN when the apparatus is connected to the LAN. This allows the data processing apparatus to operate correctly without problems that might otherwise occur due to the error in the LAN. The data processing apparatus also has the capability of operating in an adequate process mode corresponding to a process command contained in a received packet. This allows effective use of the data processing apparatus.

The apparatus comprises a counter for counting available space of the image memory and function for determining the memory size of one page of received or read data and compares the memory size determined by a reception or reading mode such as "standard", "fine" and "super fine" with the available space of the image memory. If the available space of the image memory is smaller than the memory size requirement, the receiving or reading operation is interrupted or stopped by page unit, preventing problems such as degraded image due to interruption in mid-course of reading operation one page of original, a poor control procedure in reception operation and wasted communication.
