    • A method for producing .alpha.-olefin polymers is provided. This method provides products having superior properties such as higher bulk density and uniform particle form which is close to sphere, with such an extremely higher catalyst efficiency that ash-removal step can be omitted without fear of coloring. The characteristic point of this method is in the improvement of conventional catalyst obtained by reacting a trivalent metal halide with a divalent metal hydroxide, oxide or carbonate or a double salt containing foregoing compounds or a hydrate of a compound containing a divalent metal to form a solid product (I), reacting an electron donor with said product (I), reacting the resulting product with a compound of transition metal of the 4th a or the 5th a group to form a final solid product and combining an organoaluminum compound with said final product,the improvement consisting in that said final product is obtained by reacting said solid product (I), said electron donor and said compound of transition metal, in the coexistence of said electron donor and said compound of transition metal.

    • Polymers of .alpha.-olefin such as polyethylene, polypropylene, copolymers of ethylene with propylene, butene-1 or styrene, are produced by the (co-) polymerization using a catalyst obtained by mill-mixing an oxide of a metal belonging to I, II, III, VII or VIII Group of the Periodic Table of Elements such as MgO or SiO.sub.2 or B.sub.2 O.sub.3, with a trivalent metal halide such as AlCl.sub.3, then reacting the resultant mixture with a transition metal compound such as TiCl.sub.4 in the presence of an aromatic compound such as xylene, and activating the resultant solid reaction product with an organoaluminum compound such as triethyl aluminum.In the preparation of the present catalyst, no dehydrochlorination occurs. The present catalyst has an excellent utilization efficiency of transition metal compound in the polymerization. Further, no polymer film forms on the wall surface of the polymerization vessel.

    • A solid catalyst component for .alpha.-olefin polymerization which, when produced, causes any troubles due to its small particle size and when used, yields a spherical polymer of a suitably less particle size and a high bulk density with a slightest quantity of atactic polymer and affording a very good dispersibility of powdery additives therein in spite of its narrow particle size distribution, and a process for producing the same, are provided, which solid catalyst component comprises Ti and Cl as active ingredients, having an average particle diameter of 2 to 10.mu., a specific surface area of 100 m.sup.2 /g or more and a diffraction line corresponding to a distance between lattices of 4.80 to 5.10 .ANG. by way of X-ray diffraction; and which process is characterized in that when TiCl.sub.4 is reduced with a reducing agent comprising an organoaluminum compound to produce a solid intermediate, there is employed an agitation intensity defined by definite values of agitation power and baffle ratio.
