    • A camera system which comprises a photo-taking lens assembly of varifocal type including a zooming lens and a focusing lens; a manipulatable member; a zooming drive device for driving the zooming lens during a manipulation of the manipulatable member; a focusing device for driving the focusing lens; a focal length detector for sequentially detecting a current focal length of the photo-taking lens assembly; a zooming amount calculator operable to repeatedly add or subtract a predetermined amount to or from the current focal length during the manipulation of the manipulatable member thereby to sequentially update a target focal length used as a reference for the drive of the zooming lens; a first control adapted to receive the target focal length updated by the zooming amount calculator for calculating the amount of deviation in focus which would occur before the target focal length is attained and also for controlling the focusing device so as to eliminate the amount of deviation in focus which has been calculated; and a second control for controlling the zooming drive device, when the manipulation of the manipulatable member is released, so as to drive the zooming lens to a position where the target focal length calculated by the zooming amount calculator is attained.

    • An apparatus and method of adjusting an auto focus are provided. The apparatus includes: an imaging pickup device for generating an image signal by capturing light passing through an imaging lens; a shutter for controlling light exposure of the image pickup device; a focus detector that calculates a contrast value from the image signal and detecting a focus from the contrast value; and a release controller for controlling a release operation constituting a photographing operation of a still image, wherein the release controller includes, as driving modes, a first mode that directs a focus lens included in the imaging lens to be driven while driving the shutter, and a second mode that directs the focus lens not to be driven while driving the shutter. Accordingly, a photographing time is reduced.

    • A focusing apparatus includes a focus area setting unit that sets a first focus area in a first captured image, an auto focusing control unit that performs focusing according to a first focus evaluation value that is calculated from the first focus area by automatically adjusting a focus lens, an information deriving unit that derives focus aid information corresponding to a second focus evaluation value that is calculated from a second focus area in a second captured image by manually adjusting the focus lens, and a storage unit that stores at least one of first focus area information about the first focus area and second focus area information about the second focus area, wherein the focus area setting unit sets a third focus area in a third captured image from among the first focus area information and the second focus area information stored during another focusing.
