    • A first trigger unit and a second trigger unit output trigger signals to transceivers disposed for the four wheels of a vehicle. The first and second trigger units are attached to wall surfaces of tire housings corresponding to the left front and left rear wheels respectively. Each of the first and second trigger units is arranged in a position of the wall surface having an angle from 5 to 25 degrees with respect to the side of the corresponding wheel. Transceivers attached to a right front and right rear wheels are thus located farther from the trigger units than the left front and left rear wheels, respectively. Such arrangement allows the transceivers attached to the right front and right rear wheels to receive the outputted trigger signals with sufficient accuracy due to high field strength.

    • According to the invention, a wheel identifying apparatus includes a plurality of transmitters and a receiver. Each of the transmitters is mounted on one of wheels of a vehicle with a given distance from a rotation axis of the wheel. Each of the transmitters is configured to transmit a signal when an angular position thereof coincides with a predetermined angular position. The receiver includes a receiving antenna located at such a predetermined position on a body of the vehicle that all distances from the receiving antenna to the rotation axes of the wheels of the vehicle are different from each other. The receiver works to receive all the signals transmitted from the transmitters, detect the received signal levels of the signals, and identify, for each of the signals, the wheel on which the transmitter having transmitted the signal is located, based on the detected received signal level of the signal.

    • A tire location detecting apparatus for a vehicle with four wheels includes four rotation direction detecting devices, four transmitters, a triggering device, a receiver, and a controller. Each of the rotation direction detecting devices outputs a rotation direction signal which is then transmitted by an associated one of the transmitters. The triggering device triggers the transmitter on a first one of the four wheels to transmit an identification signal specific thereto. The receiver receives all of the signals transmitted from transmitters and provides those signals to the controller. The controller identifies the transmitter and tire on the first wheel based on the identification signal transmitted from the transmitter on the first wheel and determines, for each of the transmitters, whether the transmitter and the associated tire are located on one of the right-side wheels or one of the left-side wheels based on the rotation direction signal transmitted from the transmitter.

    • A wheel identifying apparatus includes first and second triggering devices located on the body of a vehicle, a plurality of transceivers each of which is located on one of the running and spare wheels of the vehicle, and a receiver and a wheel identifier both of which are located on the body of the vehicle. The first and second triggering devices continuously transmit first and second trigger signals, respectively. Each of the transceivers monitors the strength of either the first or second trigger signal thereat for a given length of time, and transmits a signal indicating variation in the monitored strength. The receiver receives and provides to the wheel identifier all the signals transmitted by the transceivers. The wheel identifier identifies, for each of the signals, the wheel on which the transceiver having transmitted the signal is located through a comparison between the variations indicated by the signals.

    • An apparatus detects positions of the right/left and front/rear four wheels of a vehicle. The detection is performed using transceivers attached to the respective wheels, a triggering device disposed in a body of the vehicle to output the triggering signal, and a receiver disposed on the body. The triggering device includes a first triggering device located closer to the two front wheels than the two rear wheels and located at a position where distances from the right-front wheel and the left-front wheel are mutually different, and a second triggering device located closer to the two rear wheels than the two front wheels and located at a position where distances from the right-rear wheel and the left-rear wheel are mutually different. Distances between each triggering device and each of the two transceivers receiving the triggering signal from the triggering device are decided at a given ratio in consideration of reception sensitivity.
